Title: Removeable Rumble Mod! Will this work??
Post by: EliteGamer83 on March 27, 2009, 04:39:56 PM
I bought the talkman mic and I hardly ever use it, and I was researching the rumble mod, but I thought of this instead to save space inside the PSP and just in case so the motor doesn't hit any parts inside the PSP. Is this correct? and what do you think will this work? it would feel ok too?

It doesn't have to be on the top, anywhere where it can fit.

I found teh parts,

USB Plug (already have male): http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=587 (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=587)

its not a dumb idea - its a good way and depending on how you worked it would allow for improvments in it all without needing to take apart the psp. plus you dont always want ot have rumble so it makes it removeable and leave room in the psp for more mods

Just one thing - why is this in the 2000 section when your diagram uses the 1000 ?

can't you do this with the headphone jack? that way you don't even need to take the psp apart

Maybe...

But then unless I re-wired the whole sound system on the PSP then you wouldn't hear any sound coming from the speakers cause your PSP would think you plugged in headphones.

Thanks for the suggestion though I never would have thought of that.

get one of those speaker grips and wire it to that.  Infact I think I happen to have a grip that will work perfectly for this, I just need the rumble motors and a schematic

What is a better motor?

Dude, It seems like DX is not restocking anything... I see some stuff that has been "sold out" for a few years there used to be alot more stuff.

No, but any old grip should do as long as you have room inside for everything.  I have a old grip that has a fan on the back and it had some rechargeable batteries inside.  I got it from my brother because it didn't work unless it was plugged in, so I just gutted it and salvaged parts for later use.

What's the difference between the two?

I think the 1st one has better weight distribution for more rumble and the second one looks more like just a slight vibrate the way the weight is positioned. Also do you think this will this screw my UMD drive? like mess with the laser/lens.

Do you think this will this screw up my UMD drive? like mess with the laser/lens. I heard someone say that the vibration is not good for the PSP UMD drive.

I'm saving up to buy all my other modding supplies before I can get a Pandora and I know you will say you can make your on but I don't want to short out my battery if I do it wrong, then that will be even more $$.

Also is 3v ok for the motor? like is that ok to have a 3v?

you only get a max of 2v across the transistor on a phat without a resistor. So I would go with a 1.8v rumble motor.

It would be on a slim though, and then why is it called a 5v?

technically its not 5v the way we are using it, its 5v between ground, I just stated it as that because then people know where to solder to. Use a multimeter across the rumble/leds on it and you will see it staying around 1.7v

Btw: it doesn't matter if its a slim.

Ok, thanks Blazin and Ghost

I'll start as soon as I get a new mobo or sell the one I have on ebay tonight. I'm trying to get another PSP in line though before I sell it, I emailed like 15 people on craigslist this morning lol so I'll wait a day or two for a reply(s) then if those people still have them I'll list it on ebay.
