Ok so I had a look at the site.
I swear a while ago there was a mod like the one I wish to do but I may as well ask after failing to find anything
What I would like to try an do is a Sub Woofer mod
So like take out UMD Drive (who needs that nowadays :P) and replace it with some kind of subwoofer (decent quality, oine that can take some wear an tear)
So my first question - is this possable
second - what equipment would I need
third - would it connect to teh same area as the small speakers do on the mobo?
and lastly - Someone please point me in the correct direction ^^
Thanks in advance

yeah its possible and i think it was done. It was basically using a normal speaker but a resistor or something like that , i dunno what, was added to filter out the sound so that only the lower frequencies went to the extra speaker making it act like a sub-woofer
-
ok so how about making it a main speaker, would that be any easier do you think??
I mean I wont care about the 2 small ones with a massive one in my UMD area :D
-
ya that is a pretty easy mod , i believe. Loads of tutorials for that. It becomes an extra speaker actually ie you don't loose the smaller speakers. Only trouble will be locating a speaker thin enough for the drive area. They do exist but sometimes can be a bit hard to come by.

Would be great for me to do as I got a clear PSP case on its way, and I'm planning to do the LED mods as well, possably the pulse or sound triggered ones.
Would you be able to link me to a tutorial that's best to use in your view? Would be much appreciated
I didn't find any, even youtubed, so I'm blind or stupid maybe both XD haha
Guess I should start looking for a thin speaker :P

here you go, no direct tutorials but these are the steps taken people who have done it. Take time and read them and the comments through once and ask questions after it. DO READ THE COMMENTS !!!

And next time, please do search :) !!!

Ok I used the wrong words in search sorry.
Ok I have read/watched them, I love the look of the 2nd link you gave me, thats kinda what im aiming for but i want to keep the ring.
So about teh first post where it would only be mono..would it sound really poor?
and if i got an awp where would i connect it etc.?
and also how much of the space in the actual UMD area can i use (thickness?)
with the ring the diameter is about 36mm so thats pretty good.
-
you'll just have to use a smaller speaker if you want to keep the ring. The speaker will have to be pretty thin as there is only a few millimetres of space inside. I haven't done this mod so i can't comment on the quality of sound but some people have also used two separate smaller speakers. I'll try to find a link but i think they were these tiny portable speakers for cellphones made by sony. So two separate speakers for left and right were used. I've personally used those speakers and they sound very good but they may not look as good as a single speaker in the psp.

yes a big speaker is good quality.. i would recogmend getting a speaker from one of those singing birthday cards as they are good size and quality :)...
good luck with your mod

Well this is the speaker im looking at getting, its the right size for inside the ring an tehy also do custom speakers so shouldn't be a problem getting one i need

With the wires what would be the best thing to do, connect teh small speaker ones to teh big one, or connect the big one to the mobo as well?
and also apart from solder an a soldering kit and the speaker itself
is there anymore equipment ill need?
-
yes that speaker should fit and no all you need wire and solder... hook it up to the smaller speaker and you should be set to go..
