My friends psp doesnt show xmb, only the waves. I thought the problem is umd on/off switch, but it isnt. I already took umd drive ribbons off and disassembled the switch. Could it be faulty mobo?
EDIT: If i connect umd ribbons back, the drive makes wierd reading noises all the time.

The XMB not showing has nothing to do with hardware. Has he/she by any chance tried to change the theme ? Becuase incompatible themes sometimes either semi-brick the PSP or just not show certain parts of the theme. If you have a backup of Flash0 try put the backup on and reboot the PSP.
Hope this helps

I have tried reflashing firmware with dc8, but still not working. The wierd thing is that 1 in 15 reboots psp shows xmb.

go to system recovery and restore flash to default, it should works fine :yess:

Tried, but still not working.

Ahh, i have this problem. I was told that flash2/flash3 is dead and therefore won't let your themes show up properly. There is no fix. The only thing you can do is install timemachine, but you can then only run homebrews, music and videos but no games.

there might be a bad sector in the nand. What did ur friend do to the PSP?
-
That psp got dropped. Maybe he just needs new mobo :/
-
If it got dropped that's also an indication that he needs a new mobo.

try using pandora n magic mmc maybe some flash is missing. if not so try keep changing each parts of psp
-
Is there any homebrew app, that shows bad sectors in nand ect.?
-
Lol this is the exact same problem my psp has.

Yeah I think so but I can't remember the names of them. Easiest way is just to reflash, and if it still gives you errors afterwords, you know it's your flash's fault.

That's really illogical... If your flash is screwy, replacing a pobo, triggers, speakers, wifi antennae, tv out board, etc. won't help... It has to be a fault on the mobo.

Use nandtools:
nandTool_0.4_Final_NEO.zip]http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/2426503_xvfsv/nandTool_0.4_Final_NEO.zip]nandTool_0.4_Final_NEO.zip (http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/2426503_xvfsv/nandTool_0.4_Final_NEO.zip)
It lets you scan your nand for bad sectors as well as repartition your nand.
