Okay, I recently traded for a new macbook pro so I have my old macbook left over. I already have a buyer for it so I will be getting $650 for it.
I saw the hd65 projector on ebay used for $625 and it has awesome reviews. I am stuck in deciding between the projector or buying a used 40-42" lcd for my setup. What do you think I should do?
-
projector is cooler but lcd would be better if your room is bright
-
flat panel hdtv is better :D . i hooked up my pc to my 50' and it got hot after a couple of hours :boxed: . projecter is good also. you can point anywhere
-
I got a projecter.. :) Its good.. you just need a fairly dark room, and a white wall..
-
get the lcd panel. You won't ever have to buy new bulbs again that cost half of what the stupid projector costs
-
LCD, projectors are good but, LCDs are much better quality, can be used in any light, doesnt need a special wall thingy etc
-
Okay so 75% of you think I should go for the lcd. I guess I am kind of leaning towards it as well. The bulb burn out thing really stinks. The extra $100 or so is worth it I guess. Alright thanks guys I will probably get a flat panel then. Every once in a while there is a 42" lcd 1080p that pops up on tigerdirect for $699
Edit: What do you guys think about this?

Why you go so low on screen size? Bigger the better. i have a 50' :D

I would recommend the LCD for a couple of reasons, the first being that the technology of LCD is maturing rather quickly and it will be ulikely that another model will come out that really makes you regret getting the one you have. Projectors are rapidly being made smaller and brighter, and no matter which one you get there will be something that comes out that makes you regret your purchase.
projectors suck during the day or in well lit rooms. Resolution is generally not as good as LCDs. Replacing bulbs is expensive. Setting up a projector to look perfect is very difficult as well, I have very rarely seen a projector that doesnt distort the image in some type of way.
LCD will be the most verstile display as it doesnt require tedious setup, and it will compliment you High definition devices much better then the projector. The blacks are what you will notice. LCD has a very nice black color while a projector can never get the display blacker than the ambient lighting of the room.
Projectors have been out for a long time, however I dont think we have scratched the surface of what that type of technology has to offer. I would liken buying a projector today to buying an LCD TV back in 2002.

LCD FTW !!!

Bigger the better.
that what she said. LOL i had to add that in there!!
back on topic.. projectors suck during the day or in well lit rooms.
Which is what i said :)

no i wouldnt bother with projection
i have to maintain them at school in my computer maintenance class
u have to clean the filters in a specific way never blow air into them or the dust will get on the bulb and burn it out/damage it so u need a low powered vacume. then you have to reset filter time. the bulbs aint cheap. cant touch them with bare hands works like theater bulbs or any other halogen bulb, the oils from ur hand will boil on the bulb and ruin it.
lcd there is no maintenance besides dust the screen lol even then thats not realy needed

Okay you guys, well I know that this is kind of an old topic but I just have a few more questions. I sold my macbook white. And I finally have some cash. So what I am looking at is an ep719 projector that we already have that is not in use. Bassically if I buy the bulb it is mine. I could pick up the bulb for Under $200 on ebay and have a 720p projector in my room. And then I was thinking I would invest about $150 in a screen. My question now is what should I do for sound. I currently have a "system" but it is very weak. I am looking for some serious bass. I was honestly looking into something down the 2.1 path. What would you suggest? I am looking to keep my total cost under $560 for my home theater project. So that would leave about $300 for the sound.
Thanks Guys

there are some really awesome thx certified speakers by logitech. Look em up. But if ur makin a home theatre , i'd seriously recommend a 5.1 system. Also keep in mind the size of your room to decide the speakers. If you buy too powerful speakers you'll never be able to appreciate their quality and will end up wasting money...
-
alright, well I was seriously looking into the z5500 speakers and they were a 5.1
Do you have an oppinion on them?
-
i was interested in them but i've read reviews which say that they are pretty average... I wanted great music quality which this set supposedly does not provide so i decided against it. But i'd highly recommend that you try out one at a store to see if you like it...
-
Okay. I would love to do that but I live in florida where there is nothing but banks, beaches, gas stations, and wal-marts.
-
what is your main use ... Music or movies plus games ? What type of music do you listen to ?
-
Well, I will be doing music, movies and games.
The main music I listen to is rock and rap. I like heavy bass. Right now I have a 50 watt sub and it is way to under powered. I like hard hitting bass.
-
those speakers are great for movies and techno , rap music because it has amazing bass but i can't guarantee it for rock music cause from my experience it somewhat depends on the music player. My 5.1 system sounds like s h i t with itunes but is amazing with wmp while playing death metal music....
