Title: pc showing two processing speeds.

ok guys... i got a new lappy for free  :w00t: but i checked the specs it showed 2 processor speeds (1.79ghz and 600mhz). what does this mean? i have never seen it before... is it normal? i have a dell inspiron 1300 lappy.

the 600Mhz is the system bus

it is now showing 1.73 ghz twice... how is it the front side bus if the fsb is only 400 mhz in this model... i am so confused >.<

1.79 is when the laptop is in high performance mode. 600mhz is when the laptop is in power saving mode. The laptop downclocks the FSB to lower the processor speed to save power. Its a very common thing on laptops. Mine runs at 249mhz sometimes

In mine it just lowered the fsb

That's the same thing. When the FSB lowers, the CPU speed lowers too.

Yea, it's supposed to be the multiplier. There's a way to disable it from lowering in the BIOS on some motherboards.
