Heya Peeps....
For anyone wanting to attempt this i have put this together.
if you dont understand part of it just let me know and ill try elaborate and edit this first post.
PSP Mod vu meter, Rumble, Speaker mod and Trigger Lights (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78eMuQ0l1HE#lq-lq2-hq)
Time:-This mod in total took me about 7 hrs
Tools Required:- Fine tipped soldering iron, Dremmel, Hot Glue Gun, lots of Patience
I have only done this mod on psp 2000's with white case as it is Translucent enough for the light to be seen without drilling through.
other cases may require you to drill holes where the leds are placed.
Parts Required
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.leeds-laptop-repairs.co.uk%2Fmods%2Fparts-list.JPG&hash=05eb3b79de765fd66c2a629d2706e53948a70f00)
VU Mod:- LB1443N, pnp transistor
pn2907a , 10k potentiometer, 10k resistor, SMD Leds
Rumble Mod:- rumble motor, pnp transistor
Get some 0.3mm copper wire OR a piece of very thin copper strip, and solder your smd leds ( positive end ) on to it evenly spaced.
now use the 0.2mm wire and connect them together as the red lines show.
also solder a wire to the copper strip.
If you try use any thicker wire here you will struggle to get the psp cover back on.
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.leeds-laptop-repairs.co.uk%2Fmods%2Fcopper-strip-leds.JPG&hash=7afdc28095c5b31a89fc2c249ef0366daf4bf631)
now take the psp front and dremmel out enough plastic so the leds sit in holes and leave the copper strip flush.
Notice all the wires running out of the top left.
Now get your hot glue gun and run it down the whole strip. 1. to keep it in place and 2. to stop the copper strip touching the screen back as the copper strip will be permanent Live.
Now strip the rest of your psp down to remove the main board.
place chip and potentiometer as in the picture ( rumble motor If Required )
OK Now go make a coffee and take a Brake.................
take a pnp transistor and wire as follows.
collector:- to chassis ( ground )
base:- to Power LED drive transistor ( See Pictures Below for location )
emitter:- to pin 5 on the VU chip
and place in space here....
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.leeds-laptop-repairs.co.uk%2Fmods%2Fpower-transistor.JPG&hash=5b20d0702cea56e94ab8187020c74432bbd5148c)
now run a wire from Battery positive to pin 9 on the VU chip.
connect the 10k resistor across pins 5 and 7 of the VU chip
connect pin 8 of the VU chip to wiper of the 10k potentiometer.
connect one side of the 10k potentiometer to ground and connect the other side to the right hand pad of the right hand speaker.
now connect LEDs as follows:--

RUMBLE MOD:- connect pnp transistor as follows
collector:- pin 9 of VU chip
emmiter:- positive wire of rumble motor
base:- to resistor ( value dependent on pnp transistor type )
resistor to pin 4 or 6 of the VU chip
rumble motor negative to Chassis ( Ground )
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.leeds-laptop-repairs.co.uk%2Fmods%2Fspeaker-wires.JPG&hash=4418232a0af451bd991ba0f5413f47706686fcae)
Data sheet for the VU chip can be found here

Good luck

bit confuzing to be onest
-
Good job but I would try to keep your wires a bit neater.
Lol and I smile every time I see all that beautiful space under the memory card slot.

Which Bit ?????
Good job but I would try to keep your wires a bit neater.
Lol and I smile every time I see all that beautiful space under the memory card slot.
the wires are all covered in the hot glue gun rubber now to keep them down, 0.2mm wire is difficult to keep looking neat.
also just another note to add, Once you do this mod you will be limited to the ammount of times you can open up your psp again before wires start snapping off and braking.

hi soz but im gonna attempt the vu mod that u did on that slim and im a bit confused on where the wires go. whats the power led drive transistor? could you posibly knock up the quickest diagram on mspaint please. thanks in advance
first off.. be patient when making room for the Leds, it is so easy to to come through the case.
I use the transistor driven from the Power light transistor to power the mod, this way it only comes on when you turn the psp on.
you could go direct to power through a seperate switch if you wanted.

Nice work hawk and the TUT seems ok not much detail of explaining but ok.
-
Dude where did you get that metal thing??
-
You serious Elite, you dnt know what that is. Come on now you should know. Well that is grill for a computer fans a 60mm grill. This can found all over google at various computer sites here one for example that you can use to get it.

-
Yes I knew it was a PC fan grill but I didnt know he cut out the center thats why I thought it looked different.
-
Oh well you should of mentioned then i would of known.
-
heya peeps.
yes it is a standard fan grill baught from maplins ( along with the 55mm Mylar ultra thin speaker )
the middle is not cut out. i simply removed the silver ring and cut out the psp disk bit, sanded the disk down to form a neer perfect disk and stuck it on to the grill.
i then re fit the silver ring and then stuck the grill on with a blob of Hot Glue in each of the 4 fixing points.
-
Yeah I'll have to try that.. looks alot cooler then just a plain fan grill fur sure I love it great job. But I personally would have used screws to attach the grill to the UMD door instead of hot glue, as hot glue tends well some brands tends to turn yellow after awhile also it gives it more of a sturdy industrial feel. It's all about personal preference though.
-
Yea i hate when hot glue does that. Instead of screws try small bolts and just sand them down so ever you want to take it off it would be much easier.
-
A circuit diagram would really clear things up as the pictures are a bit hard to see (make sure you use macro when up close) but i like your mod i will attempt this when i get the parts + time
-
Yea that would help but if you click on his video there is another video updated posted on this video in here and that one has the forum about this.

Hi
I can't see Power LED drive transistor (the picture is so bad)
Can anyone tell me where this is???

sorry for the necro post. any chance you could post a zoomed in pic of the led power driver transistor point to solder to?
