well since my company has initiated a rolling layoff, i got some time to kill :drunk: :psp: . searching around i found this

i cannot remember the original designer's name (i would love to give him props) and i want to try to build one. what i was wondering is does anyone know where i can print off a full size pic of the guts of the phat i looked but am at a lost. i just dont want to tear my psp apart while i'm working out the kinks i still wanna play ya know. if anyone knows anything it would be a great help

Just FYI, that was never made... Somebody just photoshopped it. But, it could be cool if you pull it off. Why are you looking for full sized pics of the guts? For dimensions?

Ha well good luck.. but I doubt just one person could do it, there was a whole team working on the Pandora. Ha even if one person could do it I doubt anyone but Cyber, Chives, F00, Maybe Alien could pull it off, I mean it's a nice idea but I HIGHLY doubt you will be able to do it.

Actually, it's not that hard. Maybe you're thinking of redesigning the entire PSP, which even the people you named, will not be able to do it. What I think this guy wants, is to make a normal psp slim/psp phat look like that.
If, you just wish to make a PSP look like that, you just need some general knowledge first. This includes:
Making the case
-Bondo?
-Vac Forming?
Rerouting nubs
- Just some basic soldering, except for the dual nub, which depending on if it's a slim or not, could be hard.
Extending the LCD screen (maybe)
- advanced soldering
There are a few more things you need to know, but that's mostly it. Sure, it's difficult, but not impossible.

To make that case i recomend vacum forming this
And the hardest part is makin the lcd slide up and down
besdies the case and screen reloction i think anybody could do this with time. I believe in you. good luck!

If you actually didn't know, people at Ben Heck OWN us at things like this and FYI- Chives is a beast with code, but he doesn't even hard mod lol. F00 is a beast but he couldn't do this either. Again cyber is amazing but i don't think so. Alien, has some chance because his CNC is almost done lol. But really, AM modders are pretty nooby "Case Makers" compared to the Ben Heck crew. This is not do-able to look like that pic.
You CAN make a slider screen with buttons under but its going to be fat, and ugly. Way i see it, just leave it. There's nothing beneficial of this of trying so much to do.

Yes thank you for your kind words Jumbo =|. I'm just saying this would be hard for anyone to do. Geez your always so critical. Your probably going to have that case custom formed, I'd suggest trying to make a 3d model and see if you can find someone with a vacuum press/contact a custom plastics company. Let's see a list of things you would have to do, re-design the home bar as I see the Start and Select buttons like something like the DS2 but more flat, also I don't see a HOME volume + volume - screen and music buttons on there. Also you would have to get a custom LCD/search hard for a rightsized LCD or else this won't look ANYTHING like what you see in the picture, the PSP is a widescreen so it's not very tall. It is also not wide enough if you want it to look like this. I see something that resembles a 3:2 image aspect ratio. It definitely is not a widescreen though. I think just because of the wrong sized pre-built PSP lcd and this project makes it not possible. Even if you got a right sized screen it would not run, the PSP is design for a 16:9 image ratio. You could be like the guys who made the pandora and make your own little sort of console, and have a home-brew version of the XMB and re-design the PSP mobo and re-flash it with your own FW. So I think just because of the screen it makes this project not possible. This is whjat it would look like with the stOCK lcd. I'm not saying this isn't possible but it would look a bit funny with sich a tiny LCD, I mean look at the PSP screen and the way this design is sketched, it's body is as long and wide and the screen is tall on this picture. So you would have to fit all that inside the size of behind the LCD.
Here's pretty much all that would need done: move the sound card, move the memory card slot, extend the LCD, dual numbs, re do the whole buttons system to accommodate the re-position of the triggers and maybe the buttons,

lol no i'm not making a new one just a case mod, i'll use an extended ribbon cable for the slider. it wont be as slim but i have an idea for the vac molding that should work. i was hoping to like print off like the boards and what not so i can start designing the mock ups and the negatives.

o and btw its a start for the design not an exact duplicate that would be to expensive for my budget :sadno:. no actually i plan to reuse the screen and incorporate the umd drive for now. its not as hard as you think just time consuming. i work with body filler and plastic welding at work and did a good bit of it in school. i dont have a console just a psp thats why i kinda want the print outs :beg:. if not i'll try to get my hands on a copier.

Elite, Jumbo is not being critical. Well yes, he is, but he's also stating facts, that are very much correct. And I agree with him too. You know :censored: about the modders at AM. Sure they're good at their own things, (coding, electrical stuff, designing, etc.) but this is DEFINITELY a BenHeck sort of project. Those guys are beast with cases O_o.

yeah, at MGS, ben heck had some pretty awesome stuff... I was talking to him and some people from the forum there, and they showed off their custom case and portablized stuff. One guy had a portable atari that was pretty cool, but they were actually at a loss as to how people do LED mods, it's actually kind of ironic that they didn't understand the stuff I talked about... (ben did of course, but not everyone.) I was, though, at a loss of their portables... but at least I met ben heck :D

Well try to look on info on ben heck's blog I think you should try a custom new LCD for the PSP the default is kinda wimpy is your gonna try this.

I think the sidekick slide would almost a good casing for sliding part but the deminsion of it wont fit a screen that size.

I can't remember who did this but there was a triple A battery mod, why don't you do a hard wires version and just put a compartment on the back I mean you are building a new case so you might as well

The aaa's don't last very long though. You'd be replacing them like every couple hours. You could also just take a psp battery out of it's case to make it smaller and then make it internal.

Well, sony just announced that their design will be a slide up design with buttons under the screen, no info on the battery yet, the UMD will be disabled, and the system will use either 8 or 16 gb internal flash memory...
also elite, you're not an idiot, it's just that you post crap waaaaaay too much. You've been here probably 1/4 the time I have, and have 4x the posts I do. Say something about post quality? I would just like to see what you have to show for any time on here you've spent, other than trolling. Sure, I have nothing finished yet, but wait and see for a week or so till I get my GBC...

Without Umd's though, they will probably depend mostly on the playstation store for game downloads. Sucks for people like e who dont have a credit card or those that dont have a computer.
Of course they may also be coming out with some new type of removable media. Games on memory cards maybe?

well, they said that the greatest hits library will be on the download list, and most likely other well known games.

I like the idea of smaller games having them on memo would be the best but the flaw is way easier to lose. But still is a awesome idea if they go that route. So sony said there having library where you can download games now.

Lol Thanks alentris and ben its my best one so far im shocked how well i did on it.
But if they are coming out with this new one i just hope its easier to hold and not looking like that pic cuz that just like holding a DS. Nothing against DS but i dnt like them that much.

Yeah, I played metroid prime for only 2 hours on the original DS, and I had a bruised ring finger from the trigger...

on 1up, they said it would be a slide screen with the buttons under the sliding part. 1 analog stick, and internal 8 or 16gb. That's all I know right now...

A lot of people never really caught onto umds. I personally only own a couple and I barely use them. Personally i dont like them because they are pretty fragile. But as far as their purpose of holding a game or movie on them they do fine. They didn't sell as well as Sony thought they would.
