You're probably doing something wrong, or it DOES have a TA-088 v3 mobo. Have you confirmed it is a v2?

If when you pop in the battery and the power light comes on, but nothing else happens, try re-making your MMS.

Keep in mind, you might have to hold a button to boot into the updater menu if you've never used this stick before.

Another possible reason could be that the IPL wasn't properly injected into the mem card.
