In Drhuv's latest news article he starts out by talking about console gaming being its 7th generation. Curious as to what generation is what I looked it up and found a wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_video_games) that outlined the generations:
Gen 1: (1972-1976)
Magnovox Odyssey(about it besides homebrew computers), Stand alone arcade consoles.
Gen 2: (1977-1984)
Atari 2600, Intellivision, ColecoVision
Gen 3: (1985-1989)
NES!
Gen 4: (1990-1994)
Super NES, Sega Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, Gameboy, Sega Game Gear
Gen 5: (1995-2000)
PS1, N64, Atari Jaguar, 3DO, Gameboy Color
Gen 6: (2001-2005)
PS2, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox1, Gameboy advance
Gen 7: (2005-Present)
Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PSP, Nintendo DS
Im a gen 3 gamer starting in 1988 i got my first NES; zelda, super mario1&3, final fantasy are games I remember. My mom has pictures of me with the maps and monster sheets all spread out around that came in Nintendo Power for final fantasy. I remained a nintendo fanboy until ps1 had a price drop, then was a sony fanboy till like a year ago when I got my first xbox (360). I now dont descriminate against any console except PS3(dont want to cough up $400 for blue ray and 2 games I dont have on 360 :P)
what about you guys?

3 cos despite being born in 1992 the first console i had was the NES
-
thanks for mentioning my article and hope you liked it.
I'm a 3rd generation gamer. I still have my nes :) love finally fantasy on it...
-
proper brings up a good point, im not looking for what generation you were born in but what generation you started gaming with.
I did enjoy it Drhuv, keep em coming!
-
I'm a 4, cause the SNES was what we had then.
My mom actually was into those games, like Mario, and Earthbound.
I remember her playing EB all the time. At the time it cost her 80 bucks!
And to think of it, I'm pretty sure we still have it, along with the first SNES we got.
Good times

argh i cant decide between gen 4 (genesis) or gen 6 (dreamcast) T-T

I am old LOL I am gen 2...maybe even gen 1 but not claming it...LOL galiga, pong froger, origional donkykong... these are all old school atari games. I am older than that, the first gaming system I had, I cannot remember the name, it had 4 games programed into it, with pong like paddles.
I still have the atari with a boat load of games in my moms attic. hasent been touched for 15-20 years..but I know its still there, next time I go home I will pull it out and take some pics of it.

Gen 7 for me!
-
even though I played the nes when it came out I don't consider myself a gen 3 gamer because I didn't own a console until the SNES came out. So I'm a gen 4 gamer
-
Seriously? Damn, lol.
I started Gen 5. Got a gameboy color when I was like 5 years old ^.^... Had good times with that thing.
-
i range from 4 to 6 as all my friends and family had consoles from 4 and i used to play on them all the time but i then only owned consoles from 5 and 6 1 from 5 2 from 6 but i have all from 7 all i need is a psp 3000 and go and a dsi and i will have it all

Gen 2..... aaahhh the good ol days...

Im a gen 4 :w00t:
-
damn thats missing alot of consoles there, alot of consoels i can name from the gens
as for me, Im all of them!
-
Myself personally, I am a second generation gamer and up. Technically I would be considered a third generation just because of when I was born. However my first console was an atari my grandparents had. Played it for years. So I claim second.

Dude i had that game! it was freakin awesome! though i never could beat it...
-
I had a original Xbox it broke, then Gameboy Advanced, then PS2 Slim to replace the Xbox (since that I've never gone back to MS) then PSP Slim then PC Gamer. I still have the PS2 and PSP slim. I kinda wanna buy the original Xbox again... I can't ford' a 360 and I enjoy the older Xbox games too.
-
idk where i am i think gen6 but i never owned a game console in my life.... so idk i'm saying gen 6 cause thats when i started playing games on pc... and i dont play any games anymore soo yea...
-
I was born in 1994 but my first console was the SNES. My main choice for gaming though was my PC and can still remember being 4-5 and playing the original Prince of Persia on DOS on some old computer we had at my parents caravan. I stayed inside playing that instead of going out on the beach, I think thats what started my current habits :P

Haha i like AM only because everyone here is so similar to me: We're all lazy people who decide that staying inside playing games, or modding, or just chilling on the computer is way more fun than going to the beach and getting hot and sweaty XD
