so i opened my xbox yesterday and was going to put my fans on 12v so i did but when i put everything back together i got 2 red lights which was overheating, but it would get past the xbox start up and then overheat so i don't see how it would overheat that fast. so i took the whole thing out of the case and carefully hook it up and it work perfect, but then put the bottom metal cage in and it overheated as soon as i turn it on but when i took out the cage again it worked.
so any idea?
i short of think it might be a short somewhere but idk where.
-
Yeah def a short. Which method are you using for 12v fans ?
-
i removed the 12v, but i had it hooked up to a transistor.
anyways hints to trying to fix this short.

IDK?? sounds like a the sensor is reading too hot, or nothing, either way, it shuts it down...wierd let me think about that for a bit???
-
yea i could see that, maybe when i was soldering something got hit by some solder of something, but it still weird that when i take it out it seems to work fine, but of course i just turn it on for a for sec to see if it turns on while out of the case.
-
IDK.. just clarify your main post for me does that say it will or will not get past the xbox start up?
where you solder points are,?? is there a build up of solder that may be grounding on somethingwhen you put it back together??
-
it will not pass the xbox start up while in the case
nope the solder wasnt sticking very good so it come right off.

did you take the heat sinks off? if they arent precise, that might be the issuse. i had an xbox that would get 2 red lights every 15 minutes, untill i took it apart and remounted.
