Hey guys,
I had a problem earlier where my i7 920 was overheating randomly...so I took it back and they changed it it and stress tested it and they said it ran at 44 degrees stable. I come back home with it and run Prime 95 Blend test and BOOM shoots straight up to 80 degrees in 2 minutes...WTF!
How long are you supposed to run Prime 95 for ?
Thank you
Luka

idk what that is but try replacing your thermal paste or cpu cooler?
-
prime 95 is a program used for stress testing your processor.
-
The thermal paste has just been replaced...along with the CPU...I got a brand new i7 920 in there
-
Your temperature sensors are probably just off.
-
Or ware ever your case is sitting in your house is cutting off air flow
-
What power supply are you using? It is possible it is not getting enough power so it is over heating.
-
I have a 850W PSU....the case is sitting on top of a table plenty of airflow...and I found another story with the exact same problem while searching on Google...I think it may be the program *shrugs shoulders*...and it can't be the sensors because the people at the shop tested the mobo as well....what about hyper threading ? whats that and how do you turn it off ?...someone said I should.
-
You can change that in the BIOS I think.
Hyper-threading (officially termed Hyper-Threading Technology or HTT) is an Intel-proprietary technology used to improve parallelization of computations (doing multiple tasks at once) performed on PC microprocessors. A processor with hyper-threading enabled is treated by the operating system as two processors instead of one.
Just disable it, you've got 4 cores anyway lol
