Awesome dude! How'd you mask off the "Playstation", the eject symbol, and all the other designs on it?
-
I tell you what.....I'm in the middle of moving, but my wife is going to bring my other ps3 systems down this weekend.....I will do a full tutorial on disassembling a ps3 to paint.....its actually very easy to do, just time consuming
-
That looks so nice. IMO orange is one of the colors that either looks awesome or like crap... especially on cars.
Yours (both the jeep and the PS3) looks hella nice.
-
seriously dude , how did u keep the logos and all ? This looks like an OEM !!!
-
btw is there clearcoat on top of the orange?
-
I just take my time and completely disassemble everything......as you saw in the picture NOTHING was taped off. It will be this weekend before I can put up pics of the process, but I will definately share all of my knowledge in the painting process.
It does have clearcoat......it is base clear.....Nason Ful-Base, and Doupont clear......I usually prefer Spies Hecker base coat, but the Nason was much cheaper. :#1:

Ive been thinking for a while about painting my PS3 but have never been actual sure how to so im definately going to use it.
-
Thanks for the compliments....hopefully next I can get my 2000 psp dual analog modded and paint it to match with some fading orange leds.....Thats the plan anyways
for the fading leds I just need to find a spot big enough for a 12f629 pic
-
Wow a tut would be awesome! :)
As for the psp, I can help you with that. For a psp 2000, there is plenty of space under the memory card slot - I'm sure you could fit everything you need under that.
-
lol I can't stop staring at that first pic you have. It looks Pro. Much better than the stock black.

I'm not as worried about the leds and pic as I am about the second analog.....I want to relocate the charger port and everything so it will close correctly, my biggest thing is that I'm not going to have time to do it.....I'll end up having to pay someone to do that mod

You're going to give me a big head.....lol.....I'm sure it will be difficult to get a rattle can to look that good......but I can show you how to get real close

thats probly the cleanest paint job i've ever seen on a ps3. good choice with the orange too man. jeep looks great too!
-
you dont mask off the playstation or the buttons, they are stickers and you peel them off

thanks, I heart my jeep

You'll just have to wait for the tut..no masking...but you're about half right
-
a quick question for you. On average how long/hard did this take?
-
Well it took me about a day and a half to take it apart, prime, prep, paint, and reassemble it. The only reason it took that long is because I let the paint sit overnight to cure(to avoid fingerprints). I would give the overall project ~3/5 on difficulty......If you don't take your time disassembling the case your run a good risk of totally effing something up, especially around the power/eject region. I have full confidence that the amazing people in this forum will be able to easily pull off a killer paint scheme on their ps3.

when u said when u were painting ur jeep
i knew they were gonna be the same color LOL!

Man thats nice :P

I'm going to try and have the tut completed by Tuesday. I'm going to include a full teardown, the best way to remove all minor parts, best painting techniques and products for this particular substrate. It should be very descriptive with lots of pics, so everyone can confidently tackle painting their ps3.........and while its apart you could even upgrade that thermal paste to AS5, and swap any surface mount leds
-
hey bimp its a fantastic paint job and its great to hear your writing up a tut. all i ask is when you post the tut you upload the pics to the gallery as with our old tuts people uploaded them to other image hosts but after a few months the hosts had deleted them and the origional poster had also deleted them off there hard drive

No problem. I would just like to say that everyone around these forums is super helpful..... I hope to be a long-time member.
-
o00o0o man that looks very nice. lol you should sell custom ps3s i'm pretty sure lots of people would buy that. i just remembered about color ware they do this to but charge a lot.
-
That is one sexy ps3! :dribble: I have one question for you how much would you want to do that to my ps3? :w00t:
-
thats an awsome ps3 im new to ps3 ive got mabye about 4 months of modding (thx socomhacker239 lol) to my xbox 360 painted it myself and wanna do tht to my ps3 i am really going to go check out that tutorial
-
Wow, sorry for the lack of updates guys. It looks like the tutorial is not going to happen. I'm going to school right now for game development and free time is a thing of the past. If i can catch a break sometime i would be more than happy to do a tut. As of now if you have any questions about the process I will be more than happy to try and answer them.
ps.....the letters will come off with a little help from an exacto knife.......then you can glue them back very carefully after painting and there is no need to try and mask them
-
WHOA, that is a cool freakin ps3 right there! :hifive: props
