Title: Xbox Controller S Repair Question
Post by: kmssd on July 31, 2009, 07:27:57 PM
I have a controller s from the original xbox thats still in use with a wiring problem. During use the controller will stop working altogether and for it to work again I have to pinch a certain section of the wire (can be seen in the picture). So I have to cut open and repair the wire in between the controller and big thing. I would like to know what is inside the black thing and can I open it.

you need to cut the outer casing(the black shielding) and then look at the cables inside, it looks as if the 5v line is torn and when u pinch it, it makes a connection and it works, u can open it, very easily actually.

Could I take a dremel with a cutoff wheel and go along the line where the halves meet?

Just a bit of confusion, are you talking about the outer jacket of the wire, or the m-soft stamped plastic puck thingy?

The outer jacket of the wire. Just cut a little before the part and after the part that is damaged. ----(not damaged)|-----(damaged)|------(not damaged) to see the extent of the damage. Then just rejoin the cables with either a Beanie or solder them. I dont see a reason for u to touch the puck since the damage isnt even there.

Edit: that big thing is probably just a magnet...

I was just asking about the puck thing in case I had to move it or something.

if you had to move it u could basically cut it off lol. Cut (cable)----|puck|----(cable) u could cut it and then rejoin the cables since they are color coded.

I cut the outer jacket off the wire, and didn't see anything wrong. So I just wrapped tape over the cut section and will just use a different controller and let someone else used the one that doesn't like to work all the time.
