Title: wiring a fan

i bought an hdmi motherboard not long ago and last night i tried attching an old laptop fan to a heatsink ( see pic ) but something went rong .
i twisted the wires around the 3 prongs for the fans and it was working perfectly , then i turned of the xbox solderd the wired to the 3 prongs on the bottem turned it on and some massive sparks and a big pop noise came , so i turned it of agian fliped the circut bored over and noticed that a chip had broke of abit like abit of it was chipped of .
also this morning i got my new whisper led fan :( and it dosent work on the hdmi xbox but it dose on my normal one .
what i need to no is can i wire the fan to the main power suply of the xbox ? thanks for any good or helpfull comments.

Well first off, your grammar needs some work :D
Second, There is no picture, Try to fix that please.

Third, It sounds like you reversed the order they go in. I did that once and it sparked a bit.

Whisper fans come with an adapter to work in both the 4 prong and 3 prong xboxs.

Please get a picture of your wiring setup and the chip so I can further help you.

yes ino my grammer needs work.
yes ino there is no picture i tried atleast 20 times it wouldent let me upload them.
ino about the adapter i used the 3 PIN plug with the hdmi xbox and it didnt work but then i took the adapter of and put it in my other non hdmi xbox and it works fine i just finished playing on it

Was the HDMI box the same one you fried with the CPU Fan?

its not fried it still works but the fans dont work when i plug the 3 pins in lol

never solder with the box or anything on. it could permently damage you box. if theres a black wire on the 3pin then thats the wire you put to ground and any of the other wires are positive.

EDIT: The blue is ganna be your ground, Red will be your 12V and the yellow is your     Tachometric

yes but i dont think you understand .. the white plastic bit with the 3 prongs sticking out dose not work atal

is there anywhere on the underside of the power socket i can solder them ( see pic )

You COULD wire your fans directly to the PSU, which would be called the 12v mod because it would run at 12v

Your fans will get louder.

i dont have a yellow wire ? i have a red , black, brown and blue wire

is it ok if i have a color coded photo please ?

Red = Yellow
Black = Black

Leave out the blue /brown

thanks been brill help i solderd the blue and the brown the the yellow and black aswell and they both work fine , hope this thread helps somone in the future
