Title: looking for a new tv.
Post by: FreeK on August 18, 2009, 05:59:42 AM
ok, so as many of you might know, my birthday is coming up pretty soon.

so ive been looking around for what i'd rather have, tv, computer/xbox headset, or ipod/mp3.

ive been leaning more toward the tv.

im looking for:

1080p
between 24"-35"
under 500, possibly 400.

the only real things ive looked at is this:

then wallmounting it since the stand is ugly as HELL

looks decent, has good reviews

dont remember why i liked this one.

but theyre all 24".

anybody have any preferences, or tips for what i should look for?

just a fyi you can get a monitor of that same size and quality (1080p) for around half the price and just get an adapter to watch tv on it.

I recommend this one

it has dual hdmi ports

You can't get "an adapter" to watch tv.
If you're going to buy a computer monitor for a tv, it needs to have a built in ATSC/NTSC cable tv tuner to be able to watch tv. Most don't have this.

The one posted by tri edge can NOT watch tv.

i might keep that one in mind, but it all depends how much im actually getting for my birthday.

i have been looking at both, and i have no use for HDMI right now, seeing as im only running basic cable in my bedroom and my 360 doesnt have the HDMI port.

well you can get a component to vga for about $50 online and if you watch for sales you can get a 23-25 for about 190ish.  just something to keep in mind.

Still doesn't change the fact that you can't watch tv with it.
Freek, as I said, don't get the one tri edge posted (or mostly any other monitor) as your tv. You won't be able to watch cable tv on it unless it has an ATSC tuner.

big mistake not being concerned with HDMI.... just becuase you dont have anything for it yet, doesnt mean you wont.  I thought the same thing when I got my first HDMI tv and was thinking I would never use the HDMI port, now i wish I had 3 HDMI on it.  My monitor has 2 HDMI and even then I am still unplugging and switching cables every so often.  HDMI isnt going anywhere so make sure to get on board now or you will regret it.

its not that im completely avoiding having it on the tv that im gonna get, its just that i have nothing that will use it/wont for a while.

and kicks, i know what your saying. i never said i was going to get it. who knows, i might not even have enough for the thing i want.
