Title: A note about xbox 360 backups, read this before posting.

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE BEFORE COMMENTING

NOTE:

DL DVD is a DUAL LAYER DVD, it holds a capacity of 8.5GB.

Making and burning of game backups, that you dont own an original copy of is ILLEGAL, and punishable by law.

To flash your xbox 360's dvd drive, you must either have a Serial port, or a Serial ATA port(SATA)

YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED 1 BACKUP OF YOUR GAME, ANYMORE THAN ONE, AND IT IS ILLEGAL

Not entirely correct, There are multiple drives you can use.

Samsung and BenQ 360 drives in mode800 can also rip the games.

Heres a compatibility list:
Quote
Kreon (IDE =SH-D162C and TS-H352C; SATA =SH-D163A and TS-H353A) or Samsung/Benq drive**(FW xtreme800 as per  Using A Ms28 For ripping )

That is wrong, that is still illegal, even if you own the game, you are not allowed to download it, you must make your own copy.

Backup Games is illegal from the start you cant do that, its against the law, otherwise there wont be anyone fighting against it.

1. that is incorrect, backing up games is legal, a gray area, but legal. the reason people are fighting against it is because the majority of people who use backups dont actually own the game and are just using it as an excuse for piracy

2. Why would you bother bumping such an old thread just to post useless incorrect information?

while I can agree on not posting incorrect information, the topic is stickied for a reason I don't think anyone really should have a problem with "bumping" this topic as long as the information added is NEW and CORRECT after all isn't that the point of a stickied topic?

While playing a backup when owning the original is not illegal, it is against the terms of service agreement to alter the hardware in order to play the backup. The 'greyness' about backups while owning the game lies there, that while there is no legal action of the copyright, there is a legal action of denial of service.

And if you play a copy without owning the original, you have crossed the line of legal action of the copyright infringement.

The act of reading the original and creating a backup is not illegal in itself as long as it is not sold. Once sold, it then becomes illegal.

But let the honesty begin: Nobody who goes through all the trouble to play copies is actually doing it legally. I will call all of you liars, because 99.99% of the time I will be accurate in doing so. Wana know why? You would have to go through 3 RROD before wearing out one retail disc. If you have the funds to pay for 3 systems, then you dont have  to worry about the possibility of replacing a game that you overplay.

Call a spade a spade. Call the kettle black. Call a pirate a pirate and let the BS end.

thx for that but

people copy the games to sell
people copy games to led to friends so the original one will not get damaged
and some do it cos the drives in the xbox are so cheaply made they scratch the crap out of your games

the last one is what I do

atleast 60% that backup games do it to sell
