Hello all i am new to this forum and have used the search function to try and find a topic related to my question but i cant find anything explaining what LED's i am able to use.
What i am trying to do is 4 different LED mods for my XBOX 360 WIRELESS controller. They are:
XBOX 360 dome lighting to red. I have ordered 3mm Red 5000 mcd LED's. Is this correct? they work from forward voltage 1.8 ~ 2.2V. link to what i have bought http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120474866241&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120474866241&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT)
RING of light to Blue. Got the 0603 SMD LED's ordered.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260311381250&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260311381250&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT)
ABXY buttons, each button will have the correct colour LED in it. I have gone for the drill the buttons out for the 3mm LED's. What type of LED's do i need 5000mcd or lower, and do they need to be superbrite ones?
Rumble LED mod, Blue LED's Needed. What type of LED's do i need 5000mcd or lower, and do they need to be superbrite ones?
Thank you very much if you can help me and if you need more information then i will be happy to post it!
Also i live in the UK. So if you could link me to some products from www.ebay.co.uk (http://www.ebay.co.uk) that would be even better. :help:

Pm me if you want a kit/guide for the ROL swap and ABXY mods.
I recommend getting any LEDs you need and stuff from Phenoptix.com - That guy is quality, he has fast shipping + cheapest prices, try his ebay aswell.
-
hey mate the led for the dome should be 5 or 3mm
0603's for the ring
and use white 3,5 or 0603 in the ABXY as using different color leds results in different brightness and needs different resistors for each led and is alot mor hassle then its worth.
also i reckonmend any red led for the rumble mod as blue 1's dont seem to light up to well

here is a great guide on how to wire in leds http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/mods/xbox%20360%20Controller%20LED%20Mod.htm (http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/mods/xbox%20360%20Controller%20LED%20Mod.htm)

Lol i ordered 80% of my stuff from phenoptix on eBay!!!! whats the chances of that!
Also thanks for the advise on using red instead of blue for rumble and white for the ABXY buttons.

I recieved my items today and am very pleased. I didnt realise how small the SMD's and LED's were!! All i am waiting for is my soldering iron kit so i can put this stuff together.
Also i reccommend www.phenoptix.com (http://www.phenoptix.com) their next day delivery and prices are great!
-
lol wow i think most modders use phenoptix
i use them and im in the uk
again great price
fast delivery and all dat stuff
here a quick one for you phenoptix
can you get those 90degree two colour leds that they use on the 360 console's???
or shall i just keep using 0603,
i got quite good at turning them on there side and using a second one (different color) with a tiny peice of wire to make the error lights.

You could also try getting your LED's from nicktronix.com

looked into it a few times. I can get them and in any colour combo possible, however the question is what colours to stock? Since nearly everyone wants a different colour combo it's easier just to recommend the 0603s, rather than carry all the colour combos.
-
cool.
thats true about color combo's as everybody has a different preference
i think ill stick with turning 0603's on there sides.

Hello again all. i have recieved all of my parts but am struggling to solder the 805 SMD's to the board.
i have removed one of the original SMD's and am having trouble with putting the other one back on.
the main problem is that when i try and apply the solder to the side of the smd it doesn't come off the solder iron and so i hae to try again. i have attempted this multiple times and have searched everywhere watched videos but still cant do it. i need a bit of advice of how to get the solder to come off the frigging iron. thanks if you can help.
-
well first off its 0603 smd leds. Now youdont need to really use solder just place the led on the connecters and and heat the solder so that the led sinks in, however if you stripped the connecters you may have a problem because there is nothing for the led to connect to.

ok thanks now i know why it wont go on. its because the first one i did i managed to strip it. :fear: ill have to do the others and leave that one until last.
-
Have you lifted the pad or just stripped them of solder?

I have one with no black pad and the other is fine (i can solder it to this side).

You my friend have a great idea using the 3mm you've obviously done some reading. A lot of noobs would just try and put 0603's in there. Those are a :censored: to solder to some wires.

I am currently in the progress of getting the little SMD buggers done. I have got one done and am looking to get the rest done on sunday. i will post somepics up when i have finished!
-
a trick a good friend told me about, is if you have wo irons, one for each hand they are sooooo easy to remove without damage
-
yea i use two irons the only trouble is that the wires can cross and get tangled up and just get in the way but over looking that which is easy to fix i find this a fast and effect method 2 irons to remove and one iron to put new ones on with tweezers

Alright just a quick update as of what i have done so far. I recieved my RED 3mm leds today and managed to wire two of them in parrallel to a 2V supply on the left of the controller and ground. But when i turn the controller on with brand new batteries the Blue SMD LED 0805 i installed instead of the green SMD's blinks and then turns off. I also have one RED LED connected to the right rumble motor.
I think i know what is wrong but would like to clarify this with someone. I think i need to put a 10-30 Ohm resistor on the two RED LED's to limit the amount of voltage being used. But is this correct and will it allow the BLue SMD LED to be on constantly?
Thank you if you are able to help and i will post some pics once i have finished charging my cameras battery.

is there any store that sells such small leds? i need some but i don't want to order online. do you absolutely HAVE to order them?

I found it muh easier to order online. I ordered them and then recieved them the next day so you cant go wrong. if you live in the uk i would use www.phenoptix.com (http://).
Also i have now done two controllers and am very happy with the result and am looking into painting them with a gradient for black to blue.
