I've been meaning to get around to this mod forever. This is just the motivation I need to get off my lazy butt and do it! I don't want to give away what I'm going to do in case I don't get it done in time. But it's a new mod using a micro that I haven't seen being used for mods yet.

Ok, so last Sunday I had a little time to work on my mod. I attached a USB serial chip to the chat pad's UART pins. I was hoping the chatpad spit out ASCII characters. All of the info I had found up to that point just said that people were reflashing their chatpads instead of reverse engineering them.

I didn't get a chance to actually test it that evening.

Ok, so after I added a USB serial port, after I found out the chatpad doesn't spit out ASCII codes for all the keys. So it'll need something more intelligent to reverse engineer the protocol. I've soldered a USB processor to the chat pad, and I'll use it to decode the protocol.

You'll notice the little PCB that was soldered to the chatpad (from my previous post) is now attached to the main micro for this mod.

looks like its gonna be a good mod, but it seems like alot of extra work.
i will have to check on the progress.
