CG2 Controller

Can a mod/admin merge this with the other identify cg/matrix thread?

i've got a couple of these pads.. they are a bit of a pain as i cant find a swithed 3v supply...
bin thinking of testing TP4 on the back as i know this is switched 2-3v in cg and matrix fingers crossed it is in these cg2 pads
or does any1 else no of a switched voltage in them?????

I thought the only [regulated/switched] power supply in the older CG was 2v max?
Just checked out my 2 new controllers that came with my MW2 box, both are CGv2.

CG has a switched 3v powerpoint.
CG2.. ive actually not tested to see if its switched or not.
Im gona make a tutorial soon.. 3v Switched powerpoints on CG/CG2/Matrix

matrix has a 2V switched supply that can source enough power to operate a pic. (most pics work from 2.0-5.5v)
CG has a 3V switched power source. Matrix also has the same point for the 3V power source and it is 3V however when controller is off the power source will remain at battery voltage.
CG1 and CG2 must both be very close in operation as I have never heard of the CG2 except for a couple posts around here. If there was any differences other then the dpad lands, we would have heard about it the second they showed up.
Kicks: regulated means that it will put out a constant voltage/current/power reguardless of supply variations (within reason). In this case the 3V spot on these controllers are regulated voltage sources that will not change with decaying battery voltage.
Switched in this case refers to the power source turning on and off with the controller. In electronics however, a switching power supply would refer to a regulator that uses either an inductor or capacitor for energy storage while generating the desired output. Hope this isnt confusing, but it could be a conflict in terminology for some depending on electrical knowledge.

Use a simple NPN transistor with matrix can create a 3v switched power-point. check one of my last posts in my ABXY flasher thread

Interesting. I was basing my chip I'm working on at 1.8v so it would work in a controller...but I guess I don't have to worry about that lol

kicks: some microcontrollers will go down to ~1.5 volts. Atmel has some real small ones in the ATTiny series that work from 1.8V-5.5V.. not sure if arduino uses the tiny series yet or not.
some pic18fs will do 1.8V-5.5V as well
TopBuzz: you are correct you can use a NPN transistor as a switch to disconnect the chip from the live power spot if you tie the base through a resistor to the 2v switched spot or any spot that comes on. (emmitter to controller ground, collector to chip ground and base through ~1.5k to 2V spot or similar switched point) before we found the 2V spot we used the bottom pin of the right trigger pot (~1.5V) after the 2v spot was found we just used that instead as it is less parts and confusion.

I'm using an Atmel AVR, yeah. This one runs on 1.8v lowest. I'll just underclock it and it'll be able to run perfectly on the controllers, lol.

the CG2 does NOT have a switched 3v source. I have poked around with a multimeter as well as checked the pins on the microcontroller with no luck

is TP4 on the back of the pad not switched in cg2 like it is in both matrix and cg......?????
ya it was clear and ya i know the transitor the highest voltage i found on a cg2 was 2.8 i have the board next to me with a multimeter as i type.
and also laxboy said he found a swithed voltage......
i would like to see a pic of this.....
then mabye we should make a new sticky thread showing all cg, matrix and cg2 switched (on and off with the pad ) supplys.....

ill poke around again and see.. i dont remember what voltage TP4 is putting out. I wanna say its was 2v but I could be wrong ill update this when i get out of class

TP4 is 2.0V switchable on both CG and matrix ... i don't know about CG2 as i have not seen one

Depending on how I'm feeling later (wicked migraine), I'll poke around with my multimeter as well.

i did however i have a feeling that this multimeter i used was wrong so no promiss guys im going to use 2 diffrent meters atm so ill see what i can do however if this meter was bad i want to apoligize. reasson being is that this multimeter is old and has been acting up ive been getting really weird readings with it so ill see what i can do in finding out if this is a real reading or not
