would it be theorectically possible to do the internal mod and create a port to plug in an external cased umd drive??
-
You should just internalize both

Easier said than done.
As for your idea, yes. It would be possible, but wouldn't be easy to do.
If you really want to keep the UMD, keep it in and use a photofast cr5400. The effort involved with creating an external UMD drive wouldn't be worth the payout imo.

It would seem easy to me. CUt the mother board up, solder is up in peices behind the mobo on the left side of the psp, Then just put both slots where the OLd ms used to be at

well you could do that but it would be really hard to solder those pieces back together seeing how close the "wires" on the board are and if you get the cr-3100 why would you want a umd drive, just save your games to your memory cards, Id just buy a Cr-5400 card

The motherboard is a multi-layered PCB. You would never be able to solder it back together.

couldn't you just cut the wires in between the umd drive and the mobo and make a port in between, sorry ive never stripped a psp that far down
