D-pad lighting
Introduction
In this part of the tutorial i will be showing you a simple way to add a light in your transparent d-pad.
Parts Needed
- 1x0603 led
- some 30awg wire
- a resistor if your led requires it.
Tools Needed
- Solder Iron
- hot glue gun
- wire cutters
Difficulty rating: 2/5
Average Time to Complete: i.e 12-20mins
Notes:
firstly this mod is only possible with a transparent d-ap
and also some people find it hard to solder 0603 leds to wires.
Step By Step Tutorial
1- first you'll want to solder a 0603 led to the end of a pair of wire
using a similar technique to what we used in the lit start and back tutorial.
2- glue your led on a wire just off center on your d-pad.

3-either wire this LED to the breadboard we installed during the dome led tutorial
or striaght to the same +/- connections likte in the photo above.
make sure you check the polarity.

FAQ/ Troubleshooting
- if the led does not light up check the polarity of it. and make sure there are no short circuits
- if your d-pad does not feel standard make sure the led is not in the way of its movment the led should be as close as possible to the pcb and just off center of the d-pad as there is a pivot point that contact the pcb.

youe could do this with a normal d-pad but not acctually light it up..... just the underneath which would give a coool circle glow

no you cant do this at all with a normal d-pad....no light manages to get around the d-pad..... you'd have to use more leds and in different places. probilly with some case modification to get th light where ya want it.

Hi, i have been doing this today and used the same solder points as you have...the lights stay on and only turn off if i take the power pack out
-
what type of controller are you using?
-
Hi its the standard black wireless controller that came with the 250gb xbox slim
-
This how you can tell what kind of controller you have. https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php/topic,24699.0.html (https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php/topic,24699.0.html)
If it does not look like any of these its a matrix 2.
which looks like this... (https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fvikingdigital.com%2Fdownloads%2FMatrix2WirelessBoard.jpg&hash=1c0bd6efd0df9ba109f9f70c4d7c9931f27211d2)

Sounds like its a CG2
-
yeah its a CG2 thanks
-
Where do the wires go if it is a CG2 board?
Also how would this light the d-pad up? Because the d-pad clips/screws onto the back thing so how would this light ahine through?
-
Pretty Sure He Is Using A Clear, See Through D Pad.
-
Even the back bit? I've never seen one of them

Even the back bit? I've never seen one of them
yep even the back was clear......
Where do the wires go if it is a CG2 board?
if you look in the "full lighting tutorial" this one refers to then you'll see where to wire it to on a cg1/2 controller.....
Also how would this light the d-pad up?
like this.....

It doesn't tell you where to connect different types of boards, it says connect to ground and VVD, which I have and my LEDs turn on asoon as battery are in
-
look in the main tutorial it does show you i wrote it i should know..... on cg1 boards use the 2 connections i show and it turns on and off with the pad.... on cg2 use those same connections it stays on when batteries are in.... there is no switched voltage point in cg2.........
matrix it show a whole different set of points for below 2v nd use the same ones again for above 2v...... same issue as cg2 ........
its its not working right on cg1 your using the wrong points....
-
With a CG2 board is they anyway to make the LEDs only come on when the pad is turned on?
-
think there was a on off code written for a pic 12f.... or theres the 7mode flasher again on pic 12f or there the octocupler.... search it out on here its there somewhere think rdc did the post on it......
