Title: Building a PC .... Need help in finalising config...
Post by: ~:Dhruv:~ on December 20, 2009, 11:47:30 PM
Ok.. so finally i get to build a new PC ! yay :D my old PC is a P4 1.8Ghz model with 512MB RAM n no graphics card.. (dont laugh.. plz ...  :beg:) i've been using it since something 2002 or what...

Anyways . i've been saving like mad for the past 2 years to get a new PC and i now have about 18k rupees... so thats about $400

I need to build a PC n it has to last me about 4 yrs at least !

i wish i could get an i7 but it is over a $100 over my budget :(

PC Cost-Calculator
Component    Brand    Model/Detail    Price in Rs.
Motherboard    ASUS    ASUS G31 Motherboard    2300
CPU (Processors)    Intel    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8Ghz Proce    5700
Cabinet    Others    iBall Designer Cabinets - Window-X    1875
Memory (RAM)    Hynix    2GB DDR2 (667 MHz) DESKTOP    2440
Sound Card    Creative    Sound Blaster X Fi Xtream Audio 7.1

ok thats the config i've come up with ... make changes... suggest somethig better at the same price point. help me out !

Btw.. u must've noticed that i havent listed HDD , DVD drive , monitor , keyboard + mouse etc...

ummm... i plan to reuse them from the old PC. the HDD .. its a 40GB from way back 2002/2003 but i think it should last out a bit more.

So that is it.. i have no more cash than $400 (stretching it actually...) so plz help me out guys !  :beg:  :beg:  :beg:

here
save it
and wait till u get more around 600 dollars
also with that old hdd its probably running off a ide cable
so u need to make sure ur mobo can use it
i understand your on a budget but 400 is hard to make a decent pc. or to me anyways.
honestly what u can do is not buy a sound card and a graphics card and use that money to make the mobo better

ok.. newegg wont ship to India,

@Deda : Actually i also need a laptop for college but i am trying to buy a second hand netbook. Should cost about $200.... If i get that i will have to wait a few more months for my PC upgrade.

I can only buy a laptop and the thing is ... i need really good battery life. i am out of the house for 12-13 hours a day in college. I need something which will last me atleast 7-8 hours. Most laptops cant. So i will need to get a netbook BUT a netbook has bad performance so i will also need to upgrade my desktop.

If i get a netbook now.. the desktop must wait. If i get the desktop now , the netbook must wait.... Man i'm screwed !!!

@Bud : That processor was a Pentium D , right ?

deda i wish i could get a mac but you know i can't :)
Yeah we obviously have power in out college ! But there are no sockets to connect laptops n such... About wifi , our college does have wifi but only the professers are allowed to use it... No our trains do not provide power and wifi and even if they did , i travel 6 hours a day in a bus to come and go to college ! I will be tethering over my cellphone for internet.

You might be able to recycle the ram, so then you will 2 and a half gigs. Or 1 and a half if you really need to save.
Also, are you using the PSU too? If its a old p4,it wont be more then 300w (ands thats alot for p4)
You might Want to get a new psu too

try the digit magazine... they have some pretty good deals in the ads and stuff.. its only Rs 100.. and u get 2 dvds loaded with software and an awesome magazine with all the latest reviews and deals.. and as far as everything else goes.. try some wholesale supply stores or "chor bazar"/underground market(plenty of em in India) if you know what i mean.... i have seen cell phone worth a lot go for very cheap there... so I'm sure you will be able to find cheap computer parts too..they just don't have any guarantees....thats all i can think of the top of my head... i know ur situation maan... my friend built one in india for like 1 lakh/100 k.. and its still not the best....

hehe bhawan... I know all the places ur talking about. Now i'm not going to chor bazaar because thats all stolen goods with no guarantee of their working beyond a day so the risk isn't worth it. The components i had quoted above were from Nehru Place , the biggest electronics market in Asia. Its right next to where i live :) also digit... Lol that mag is 150 bucks now i think and is a total pos... There's nothing in there but ads ! I can get my advertisements on the internet for free ! I'm not gonna pay for them ! But yeah , once upon a time the mag used to good...
