Title: Plexi/Acrylic?
Post by: PspKicks316 on December 24, 2009, 09:08:27 AM
What's the cheapest place to buy plexiglass or acrylic?
Like the sheets used in case windows.

And just so I know, to cut plexi it's best to score it with a razor blade deep enough first then break it, right?

cheapest place I've found is home depot or someplace like it, they all charge about the same.

Yes that is the best way to cut the plexi, but it limits the shapes which you can accurately create. cutting with a jig saw might be do-able, but risk melting the plastic...

no prob kicks. wait... just had a thought... you might be able to actually cut it if you used a coping saw (like a hand version of a jig saw) instead of a powered saw... I'll break mine out when I get home from vacation and get my hands on some plexi and let you know...

You don't have to do that for me. I'm not making an intricate design so scoring it should work well.

i dont know what the saw is called but when i used to use it when i was in high school we used a saw that just looked like a piece of wire and we would score it and then either cut to the score or drill through where we wanted to start and put the cutting wire through the hole and hook it bac onto the saw

Maybe something like a hacksaw?

I think that you're thinking of a coping saw...
Like this right?

Oh, don't worry kicks, I'm working on a window for my 360 project so I'm gonna be cutting some plexi anyway and there are a few things I'll have to work around, so I'll try it anyway and let you guys know how it works out, I'll let you know how it works out as far as cutting the 360 case as well... I kinda remember it working well when I was in 6th grade, but that was like 20 some odd years ago, so it's kinda hazy...

Table saw works really well. Just keep the blade low and dont push through too fast but not to slow either.
