well I received this box that no longer has warranty, what I want to know is should I x-clamp it? Could it possibly do more harm than good?

No it shouldnt ghost better then waiting for the red ring unless it already has it.

i suggest wait for it to come
before you attempt it cuz it will red ring later but you wont know if you caused it or MS caused it
better to keep the parts handy but not to use until actual problem occurs

I guess chucking a fan in and a few extra heat sinks can't do any harm?

as you know ghost i have a console that has just ran out of warrenty and yeah i have xclamped it..... well kind of i did it all apart from the overheating of it as i didnt see y i need to do this for a console that is still working fine..... i also upgraded the cpu heat sink and put in a extra fan... the way i see it is all 360's will either RROD or E74 1 day be it tomoro or 5 years down the line.... so if its out of warrenty and M$ wont fix it for free anymore... you might aswell put some RROD prevention in it maybe evan through some small heat sinks on the hana/ana chip to try n keep E74 at bay aswell. anything to help stop it.....

all your going to get here is peoples openinons, so here is mine.
background:
1. RROD can be caused by many problems with the 360.
2. 99% of RROD are due to a heat related problem.
3. when the xbox mobo heats it starts to flex, the only thing holding it from flexing is the xclaps.
4. when the xbox red rings from heat as stated above, the solder joints on the CPU and GPU develope micro cracks.
5. over time these cracks get worse, eventually cease to make the needed conection between the mobo and the chip. causing a malfunction error message (3 red lights)
conclusion:
keep xbox cool at all costs!!!! as long as it stays cool the mobo wont warp and the cracks in the solder joints cannot form. concentrate on keeping it cool and dont worry about the xclamp until/if it fails. your not going to replace the motor in your car until you need to are you?
Now, more/equally important is the HANNA chip..this is the cause of e74, another big killer..find a small hat sinc and a fan you can apply to keep this chip cool also and you should have nothing to worry about.
if it Red rings, you can always fall back on the xclamp to fix it..
either way that is my opeinion. good luck to you whichever way you chose to go

couldn't say it better myself... keep it cool and give it good clean airflow and worry about the clamps when you have to cross that bridge (if you ever do)...

okay, standard ram sinks will work for the HANA?

Dont do x-clamps, Ive seen it make things worse, replacing the thermal paste would be the best best, maybe tighten the heatsinks a little if they are loose.

I got a brand new xbox and did the x clamp fix and havn't even had it freeze and i have been on it for 2 years now. Clamp replacement is good since you releave the pressure off of the center of the cpu and gpu, there fore when it heats up there in no pressure to make them come unsoldered. Trust me it does wonders.

Replacing the xclamp would be called a preventative measure. So really it would be like changing a recalled tie rod end so you dont end up :censored:ed in the ditch

Umm thanks guys for all the opinions, I think I will just replace the thermal compound with AS, and add fans and heat-sinks.

I have a year old sealed xbox, that I keep well ventalated and clean, it doesnt freeze either.
the xclamp mod is designed to apply more preasure than the origional xclamps.

or if you have some extra cash do as I did, and watercool the CPU,GPU, and HANA chip :victory:
but for my other air cooled xboxes, even if they are brand new, i X-Clamp, add RamSink to HANA, RAM, and Southbridge, and Duct Mod

Nah no spare money here, I made $600 bucks over Christmas working, but its pretty much all gone now lol.
And yea matt, I have another 06 model that had RRod once but It was sent in, since then I have kept it well ventilated and that was like 1 and a half years ago, still got the warranty sticker in tact, no problems at all.
