Title: Cygnos on Jasper
Post by: SN!P3R on February 25, 2010, 07:05:16 AM
I want to install a Cygnos360 v2 chip in my 360. It's the MW2 edition xbox. What I am wondering:

It's a Jasper will it work?
The onboard kernel is 8955; does it matter since i'm flashing an older kernel to the cygnos?
Any other thoughts?

Pardon the newbiness, I haven't really done softmods, other than drive flashing.

As far as I can tell, this site says yes but I would get someone who really knows their softmodding stuff to answer this.  I also am more of a hard-modder myself though I do a lot of Cpp programming Lulz...

no, kernel must be pre-8XXX to install cygnos because it utilizes the jtag hack...

It doesn't use the JTAG last time I checked. It functions as a secondary NAND and switches between the two. Since it's a physical NAND and not a softmod, I don't believe it needs the JTAG.

If it does, you can XD card mod the 360 insead. That works on any kernel IIRC.

IF YOU WANT TO USE THE SO CALLED “JTAG HACK” YOU HAVE TO HAVE AN EXPLOITABLE CONSOLE. THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS ARE NECESSARY:
1) The dashboard version of your xbox 360 CANNOT be 2.8xxx
AND
2) The manufacturing date of the Console must be before June 2009

This makes me believe you can still use it without the JTAG hack.

16MB jaspers only...

idk, honestly, that's just what I got out of it, the real person to ask would be KingMike, he does tons of installs on those...

not to nit pick details, but wouldn't a cygnos install be considered hardmodding and a firmware flash be softmodding?

Yes, which is what I said...haha. It's a "physical NAND" since it's an actual NAND chip being used as the secondary NAND. The NAND image that's flashed is the softmod.

in order to use the Cygnos correctly it will have had to be JTAGed at some point because in order to run any other dashboards or anything else, you would need the CPU key and well as the decrypted keyvault and config blocks. And in order to run the latest dashboards and stay exploitable you would need a rebooter which can only be used via the JTAG hack.

If you have any other questions fee free to ask.

And this is not a softmod as it requires hardware modding to the console itself to create the timing attack.

Damn, that's what I thought. I thought I'd ask first before spending $50 for it, thanks
