Thursday, 4 March 2010 Foo posted the VU meter stuffed into a Psp on his blog (http://thef00.blogspot.com/ (http://thef00.blogspot.com/))
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi109.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn66%2Fbunnyf00f00%2FIMGP1869.jpg&hash=e4aebdf4b80d756acb373cca75bf52b5724cace8)
On his blog he says.. "I love vu meters. I mean it I really really like them. So with me doing so much work on psp's over the years I knew that I would one day end up trying to fit one in a psp some how. I should say before I start that this is only a semi finished project. My psp (the one I use for gaming) has a full vu meter installed, however I have plans to do an entirely new revision of this, which I will go into more detail about later.
For those of you not in the know a VU meter displays signal level in Visual Units. They are often seen in audio equipment an are usually ether a needle or led display."
Foo then went on to say "There are two ways that I know of of building a vu circuit. One is with a ic that is designed for it called a LM3915. This is relatively simple to use and would be perfect for what I want to achieve. I didnt have one of those though. The other way is using several opamps. I had some of those. So the design I went for in this first revision was 2 quad opamps called LM324's Heres an schematic of that circuit. Please note that this is not the actual one I used as I had to modify that for use with the psp."

And here is the finished product..

That's pretty cool.
Judging by his post it shouldn't be too hard to whip something like that up for speakers - would add a cool effect to bookshelf or performance speakers.

That psp in the photo is pretty old, I remember seeing it back in the good ol' days. Think the vid is new though, its a diff psp in the vid obviously.
-
look in the date in the psp where he's loading it. it says 4/3 so assuming its M/D It would be at the very least, a year old.

Hey everyone. Yep the video is new but the mod is pretty old. They are both the same psp just a diferent door. One of the guys from hackaday asked if I would make a video of the mod.
I am kinda suprised but also really happy that psp mods are still so news worthy.

Foo, your work inspired most of these young guys to start modding in the first place, no offence, I am a 360 man myself, but most of the member base, as you know is psp generated, and alot of that was generated by you. so yea, we are going to post up whatever you do, and it is likely to get alot of attention.

And it woud be nice to see like a acidmods intro or something like that...
