Title: Microsoft detecting illegal copies of Windows 7?
Post by: SN!P3R on March 09, 2010, 05:39:49 AM
Yes gentlemen, Microsoft has decidedly made a subtle update to detect if your copy of Windows 7 is legitamate or not. Update KB971033, named "Update for Windows 7", is the update in question if your running a *cough* "aquired" *cough* version of Windows.

This would be interesting if it wasn't 2 weeks old.

That means it detected your install as illegal. You won't be able to do anything unless you change your key to a legal one.
Give it another 2-3 weeks and you'll need to wait an extra ~30 seconds before you can log into Windows, give it I think another month after that and you won't be able to log in at all (IIRC).

Wait, what?! Are you serious?! I had someone do this for me! OMG! So sooner or later I won't be able to login?! How can I fix this?!

If you ever respond in all caps again, I'll have you deported.

In command prompt, type in:
slmgr -rearm

That will extend your trial 1 more month. You can do that a total or 4 (I think) times.
Do it at the end of your 30 day trial periods.

Just wait for a new, better, crack to come out. Or, you know, get a legal copy.

Don't quote me on the "not being able to log in" part. I may be wrong.

Also if you look on the appropriate sites, there's a 'rent that has  all the versions of windows, x86 and x64, already activated.

Ya I decided I'd rather not go to jail for a $4000 program, so I turned over a new leaf and buy my wares now
