Hi all, i needed your expertise to help me with this:
Ok so I am participating in a Nation wide competition for IT/Networking on May 17 and I really want to do good on this. There are a lot of things I need to know for this competition (and I know most of these) but there are some things which I need help with. Heres a list of what i need to know:
NOTE: the things in RED are the ones that I would like you guys to please help me with. Things in yellow that I am kinda unsure about. The things in green I am perfectly good with (although if you guys have some nice tips that would be great) :beg:
Hardware and Networking
• Install and configure virtual machines
• General knowledge of computer hardware
components and connectors
• General knowledge for computer
troubleshooting
• Interpret network diagrams
• Calculate for, and apply to a network, an
addressing scheme including Variable Length
Subnet Mask (VLSM) Internet Protocol (IP)
addressing
• Implement static and dynamic addressing
services for hosts in a Local Area Network
(LAN) environment
• Implement, verify, and troubleshoot securing of
network devices I don't know what the expectations really are I am guessing it is refering to firewalls and stuff.
Windows Server Operations
• Configure Domain Name System (DNS) for
Active Directory
• Create and perform maintenance of Active
Directory objects
• Configure infrastructure services and roles
• Implement, verify, and troubleshoot Group
Policies I really need help with all the group policy stuff, just a small quick crash course would be helpful
• Configure, verify, and troubleshoot server
security
• Perform data provisioning (i.e. shared
resources, offline data)
• Enable and configure remote management
• Install and configure IIS
• Create, modify, and use scripts and automated
tasks I know how to write simple bat scripts but that is it. I need to know how to like automate stuff with scripts
Linux Server Operations
• Package management (e.g. resolving
dependencies, updating applications)
• Configure and manage local storage devices
and file systems I kinda don't know what they are asking for here.. and also does anyone know how to set up raids in Centos/Red hat
• Set and modify file and directory permissions
and ownership
• Perform remote management
• Create, modify, and use shell scripts I am a big fat 0 at creating shell scripts.. I need a quick crash course for this
• Create, modify, and delete user and group
accounts
• Configure server-based network services (e.g.
Hyper Text Transfer Protocol [HTTP])
All I will have for this competition will be:

• Linksys SOHO Integrated Router device
• Cisco Catalyst Switches with IOS 12.3 or
higher
• Suitable computer hardware
• VMWare Workstation 7 virtualization
software
• Windows Server 2008
• Windows 7
• Centos 5.4 or higher
Any help would be VERY appreciated people.. please help me. :beg:
