hello, just got the miniature trackball that nico used in his trackball psp mod and im going to be attempting this feat on my own. i will do it in a similar fashion to nico.
before i get started one question. is the gnd for the L trigger the same as for the [ ] O /_\ X buttons? all i need then i can get started
-
i think so. any ground should work
-
cool that really helps me out.this way i only need to run one wire across the psp. shout be able to borrow some equipment from my electronics teacher and then as soon as i do that the rest will be cake
-
were can i find a tut. on the trackball mod?
-
there isnt one. nico was going to make one but had other priorities so i plan to do the mod and fill in the blanks for everyone else.
-
Nico has a picture of his soldering to the ZIF, that all..
-
make sure to take a bunch of pictures so the tutorial team can help you put a nice tutorial together. I take a pic after evey step, usually I take two incase one dont look right
-
well all i can say is good luck
-
thank you for the support, right now i need to gather 30-32 AWG kynar wire, a new cutting disk for my dremel, the current ones are too large and gain access to the soldering iron at my electronics class, special made tip and better heat control. i plan to do all of the above stated within the next 2 weeks.
also in honor of this mod im growing a neck beard as it is the only beard i can grow properly.
-
GO KINK!! looking forward to seeing it!
both the mod AND the neckbeard!!!
-
due to the lack of progress and support ive had from people around me i had to discontinue...but the mod is still on, and now my neck doesnt feel like the back side of the missing link. but hopefully i can get some free time in my electronics class to work on this. ive been backed up formatting drives and preparing for a huge in school gaming network to be set up.

What Will This Mod Let You Do?

What Will This Mod Let You Do?
Instead of using the abxy, you can use the up, down, left, and right on the trackball to navigate around.
-
sort of. basically this track ball will act as a second analog stick. one of the staples of Acidmods has been the dual analog sticks on a psp, well for aiming i despise using an analog stick, and i also felt it relevant to do a recreation of this mod because nico was busy and didnt have the time to make a tutorial for it. i play a lot of FPS as well so the dual peripherals at the bottom would really help. its just another means of playing a game
-
What kind of trackball are you thinking of using?
-
same exact one that lord nico used, found it on mouser.com, just searched miniature trackball. 20$ with shipping, only problem is, it doesnt supply a pinout, so i had to find it myself. i just got a donation from my electronics teacher, he gave me the soldering iron i need, i just need to order in some kynar wire, roughly 30-32 AWG. any suggestions on where to order from?

Hi it's a C&K TrackBall?
If yes take a look in the Datasheet you have all you need for Wire:
DataSheet (http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/85775.pdf)
++

wow that's a lot smaller than I expected.
I thought of using a blackberry trackball, but it's too difficult to hack those to even bother.
I'm pretty sure radioshack sells kynar. I just don't know if that's where you'll find the best price. I'd look around at a bunch of different places.

how do you wire the trackball to the abxy buttons?
I'm interested in this mod too, but I have no idea how to wire it.
-
just wait til i get the materials and i will release a full tutorial, pictures and a demo vid. radioshack has it, but none of the local shops do. im probably just going to order. im still waiting on my electronics teacher to get everything together for the iron as well. i apologize for the insanely long delays and waits on this, but trust me, when i get it done it will be worth it.
-
i have to wait until i'm done with school and my eagle scout project before i start modding anything.
So i can wait, no big deal.
i really want to wire this to the dpad so games like monster hunter and god eater will have acceptable controls.

log on to my blog,i've made a few research for psp trackball..i'am about to try 1..http://malaysiapspmodder.blogspot.com (http://malaysiapspmodder.blogspot.com) i think if u got the blakberry trackball u can use the click function for R trigger..maybe with a timer 555 ic u can make it to send signal repeatedly like rapid fire i think..and for a finishing touch, put led to make it glow..sorry bad english..
-
not really interested in a rapid fire, im hooking it to the L trigger because it has the better features in most FPS games. the first person shooters are the main reason that im doing this. im not too worried about getting an LED in it, that you can easily buy with it in.
-
kinda good if i got one trackbal..for fps game..i'll make the tutorial when i got it..
-
You could hook the trackball up to both the L and R buttons and then have a switch to switch between the two functions.
-
good idea too..i know where to find track ball in my country now..getting it in a week.. got something running in my mind now..wait and see
