ok so i have wanted a mac for about a year now, and someone wants anything but a mac (they have a macbook air) and they want to do a straight trade for my dell inspiron 1545 (2.0ghz processor 3 gigs of ram 120 gig hdd). should i do it? the guy doesnt know about specs, and my assumption is that it is the lower end model.
what do you guys think?
also please dont say anything like "mac sucks pc ftw" because i love osx and i will NOT be swayed. please respond only if you have a serious opinion.

ask to play with it a bit and check the specs out
-
ok then. i know its fairly recent (less than six months old) and i am pretty sure its the lower end model. anything else i should look out for?
-
scratches, any cool programs he has on it.... etc
-
there uTorrent for Mac... but alrighty then!
Im not going to slam the Mac OS, because, i mean, im not a graphic artist, or an indie garage band.
But a Macbook Air has no power to run really heavy programs...

neither does this lappy. 32 mb vram.

a macbook air is essentially an ultra portable, like some light weight laptops and netbooks. the best thing to do is use it as robin said. try out the programs (or Apple equivalents) that you use on a fairly recent basis and base the performance on that.
of course you'll wanna look at other thngs like condition or battery life, but see if it works as good as the computer you have, or even better.

processor wise. Isn't it like 1.83 Ghz? Well the one on the apple site as of now

this one is only 2 ghz. not too much of a downgrade.

lolwut isn't your already 2.0? I'd say do it anyways, I mean, it's a nice lookin' mac :D

HIS is 2.0GHz. Going to a 1.83GHz CPU isn't a big downgrade he's saying.

Oh gotcha
-
do it
its the other guys fault for not being more educated on teh subject. or doing some research.
he could be fairly educated on specs in 1 to 3 hrs

If you have physical access to the system, boot into OS X, click the Apple in the top left corner and select "About This Mac"
When the dialog box pops up, click the "More Info..." button. This will bring up the specs of the computer. If you like what you see, go for it!
-
i know about that, but i dont have access to it yet. and the guy is starting back out it seems, as it was a "gift"
-
cough** PC FTW** oops sorry just kidding
-
I would trade it... sell it.... upgrade ur PC....
but that just because I am not a graphic artist or an indie garage band.
