Why doesn't your friend just give you $35 and get a good programmer such as this one.

if you want usb compatable, you need to buy a programmer, if you can live with serial port programing thenthis is the way to go.

Started out with this programmer now I won't lie I had a few problems it would  act up to but in the end it did what I wanted and I had a satisfaction cause I had made it myself.
