Are you trying to repair/clean a disk drive or completely rip the old one out and replace with a brand new one?

* If you replace with a brand spankin new one you will have to flash the firmware of that DVD drive to get it to play games with that new drive... its a long process and costs money but IMO its not the worst thing to mod in the world.

If you want me to make a video on flashing a DVD drive I will when I get the chance.

omfg I had this happen to me two days ago.

I can't figure this out still. I cleaned the laser and dusted the thing and I think theres something wrong with the motherboard.

What kind of DVD drive is it? Mines a Hitachi.

generally, when the drive goes bad, its on account of a faulty lazer or motor. so you can buy the same type of drive, and just swap the mobo's. this is a easy walkaround as apposed to flashing the drive, but will genreally fix the drive issues.

as long as you keep the same drive mobo with its matched xbox mobo, you dont have to flash.
