yea apple would work for everything he mentioned except for gaming,

A MacBook is a good choice, and for gaming, there Steam for Mac, which has a load of HL2 Games, CS:S, TF2, and soon GMOD, and most new games will come to mac as well.

My recommended manufacturers:
Medium Budget (£350-£600):

- Acer
- Asus
- Dell (Lower Models)
- Zoostorm

High Budget (>£600)

- MacBook
- MacBook Pro
- Alienware
- Dell (XPS)

except for the lack of right clicking, which is important for gaming. however i'm sure theres a way around it (different mouse, maybe the macbooks do have a right clicking option, idk. just heard a lot of people complaining/chatting about it in css so i thought i'd mention it)

From the reviews I've read it has terrible battery life, but everything else looks good. If you don't mind rechargng a lot, go ahead.

Other wise I'd be tempted to go with and Alienware M11x or a Dell Studio XPS.

Remember you'll need at least a 2.3ghz and a 1gb GDDR5 Graphics Card and 2GB RAM to keep playing the latest games, and I would recommend something with AMD and ATI Components (60% of the price for 90% or the performance of the same level Nvidia Card).

And I definitely wouldn't reccmmend O/C'ing the Asus G72X (not that you'd need to, anyway). The battery life is short enough as it is.

go with asus! i recommend the g60jx or the g72gx good for the things u need it for. I have the g72gx its perfect soo far and the battery life is about 1hr30mins for me. but mine is always plugged in soo battery life doesnt matter.

I really think you should take a look at this dell its a bit expensive but definitely worth it besides asus has the worst customer service ever in my opinion. their lcd screens are terrible too mine already broke through everyday use im not even rough with my laptop.

I think it depends on your budget. :D But I recommend Sony Vaio is a good choice.
