I was sick of the battery pack being in the way on my wireless controller, as I'm used to playing with a wired pad, sooo here's what I did :yess:

Nice mod. Whereabouts on the actual board did you solder to?
-
yeah put a picture of it up please man cause i would like to know too so i dont have to full around and keep testin diff stuff
-
Very nice mod mate.
-
I just tested how this would work. AA batteries don't fit in the place where the rumblers are, even if you desolder the socket for them. So unless you used AAAs then I can't really see how this worked...
-
you can see in the pic they are clearly AA's. you would need to cut out the supports for the rumble pack. and it should fit nicely. I will verify.
-
I tried it on a spare case I've got with the supports already cut out. If I'd tried to screw it together it'd have warped/snapped the board. I may have done it differently somehow, I'll have another look.
EDIT: OH! Looks like you've cut out some of the screw supports too. Sorry about that. I'm guessing that gives it just about enough room to squeeze it in.
Still, I can't find where you'd solder it to on the board, anyone have any ideas?
-
Yeah there isnt much room in there, I pulled out the springs for the battery pack and soldered the batterys there. ive got a switch on the side for when the controller is charging. i will take a pic tonight :drunk:
-
Thanks for replying Phantomz0.
You say you soldered them where the springs used to be, so in theory a Play'n'Charge would still work to charge them...
I think I'll do this too, but with one battery so I can keep rumble, and while still using the wireless battery pack.
-
#1. you must have two batteries for the controller to work
#2. I dont see a play and charge jack on the wired controller shell.
-
I was going to only add it for a bit of extra juice to backup the main two batteries, and I'd use a wireless shell, so it'd have the jack.
-
stop and rethink this idea dude. nice mod phantom...hey one question though, who is Jelly.Wagon???
-
thanks, i had trouble logging into this account a while back so i created a new one.
-
stop and rethink this idea dude.
Good point, I made stupid mistakes when I was thinking that out.
I've got a new plan though. I'm gonna ditch the battery pack and use a wired shell like Phantomz0 has, but I'm still going to try keeping one of the rumbles.
Do you think that it would work if I found a battery/batteries a similar size to an AA with 3v output and used that/those in one side. It would be a lower capacity but I don't mind.
-
if you can find a similar power supply that will fit into one side of the ontroller shell it will work.
I feel like an ass, there is a play and charge port, and play and charge will work.
see, the shell is a wired controller, but the mobo and sinc plate are from a wireless controller, now if you will wire your battery leeds to the center power points (the four in the center of the controller) you can use the play and charge.
-
i planned to keep both rumbles by using a 1/2AA battery, its half the size of a normal AA and is 3.6v, so you would only need one. but im not sure if the 3.6v would damage the controller as its designed for 3v.
-

If I desolder the port that's already there, what would I do with the four empty holes that are left? Where would I solder positive and ground, and would I need to do anything with the other two left over? Thanks
-

While we are on it.... RawryP, who is FelineGuy?

Lmao, FG's my old account. My FelineGuy account got hacked on another site, so I made a new email and username and I use RawryP now.
-
Will you put some more pictures up of the controller please?
-
Here is where i soldered to, I pulled up the pad for ground as i was taking out the springs, so i soldered that green wire to the trace.

Why does it need a switch for charging?
-
When its plugged into USB, i wasn't sure if the 5v would damage something. it probably isn't even needed, but i put it there just incase.

The new batteries I ordered arrived today, but they're not AA, so the only way to charge them would be through the play'n'charge port. So does anybody know where I would solder a battery to so that p'n'c would work?
-
to the center 4 pins, dont desolder anything. plug in your pnc and test those pins, one is gnd one is power. just solder to the pins that are there.
-
Ok, my new wired pad arrived today, so I'm halfway there. I'm just waiting on another new set of batteries to arrive. The first ones were 1mm to wide to fit. :boxed:
I think I've found the right pins on the P'n'C port though.haven't got round to testing though.

Ok, I tried this and it looks like the cable doesnt charge batteries unless they're connected to the chip from inside the official microsoft battery. Or at least that's my guess. :dntknw:
-
yep, apparently you need that chip connected to your battery's to charge them with the Pnc. by looking at pictures of it, it looks like you would be able to fit it inside your controller and solder it all up.
-
I managed to dig out my old rechargeable batt and cracked it open today, but the ENTIRE board was coated in heatsink compound. Unless I pick it off and risk ripping off a component I'm not gonna be able to solder that.
I think I'll just pick up an unofficial batt like yours and use a standard usb to charge it, makes a use for the hole where the wire used to be in any case!

I seen this mod before its on youtube. The guy uses the orginal recharge battery mabe by microsoft, he removes the motors an puts the batterys there. He also solders the recharge board to the recharge ports. Looks pretty good. The guys on youtube idea would have been nicer i he used a differant shell. Well heres the link hope it helps.

yeah that guy should have used a wired shell, I have a new battery on the way, it should be small enough to fit in there and keep both of the rumbles, and charge with the play n charge cable. Not sure about how much playtime i will get out of it though.

Can anyone explain the wiring here? What on the PCB? Can someone do me a schematic?
-
I ripped this out of an aftermarket battery charger, it was like 5 bucks on ebay. i will post some pics if i ever find the cable for my camera. i'm working on a better version of this controller, still waiting on the psp nub for the d pad.

In this he should put a jewel in, with some LED backlighting. Would be awesome.
-
heres version 2, i still need to sort out what im going to do with the USB jack and the LED, i might eventually get some bondo and fill it in with a nice port for it. let me know what you think!
