Title: Will this timer work
Post by: AlexWIWA on July 01, 2010, 11:50:24 AM
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062596 (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062596) This is the timer that I have. It's product number is 276-1723

I was wondering if this will work to make a double trigger rapid fire mod on a CG controller. Any help will be appreciated. I can also post the link to the tut that I'm using.

tut is from n8bog.com and it's the dual rapid fire mod. NOT the 3 mode mod.

yes that is a 555 timer it will work if your doing the 555 timer rapid fire mod.

Thank you. I was reading on another forum and someone said that a wireless didn't put out enough power for this chip. Maybe it will work, oh well, if it doesn't I can just take it all out.

a wireless controller will still work. here is a tutorial https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php/topic,25338.0.html (https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php/topic,25338.0.html)

I don't have the parts for that one right now, but I can acquire them tomorrow. As for the one I already started. This is essentially how it works

middle pin
resistor, (4.7k-Ohm, 1/4 watt 5% tolerance)
wire
push button, (normally open)
wire
pin number 3 on chip from radio shack, (276-1723)

Pin 1 goes to positive
Pin 8 goes to ground.

The button works, but it only acts as another right trigger. Could this be because of the resistor, or will this not work. I am on a CG controller.

you need the 555 tlc

And what would that be? is it the programming for the chip?

Lol nvm, that's the chip. Alright, looks like another trip to radio shack.
Just to make sure, this is it right?

I jut read post number 4 again. the timer needs other input components to make it provide the signal we need for the mod.  different componenets will make the timer respond differently, whichs is why alot of people have slightly different timing values. http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet/texasinstruments/tlc555.pdf (http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet/texasinstruments/tlc555.pdf)

any 555 timer should work, but the tlc555 timer is made to operate at low power.

I made the mod, but it still only added another trigger. I'm just going to go ahead and follow your tut. I would just buy it from you guys, but the shop isn't showing me anything except the, "sorry we're closed."

Does yours require any programming of the chip itself, or will it work if I assemble it as per the tut?

The 555 timer doesnt require any programing. Just follow matts tutorial.

I was going to go purchase the prerequisites to do Matt's mod today. One last question about his, though. Can I make the chip go to a button instead of making the triggers rapid fire. I read some replies and this question was answered, but I'm still a little foggy on how to do that. I know that I replace the on/off with a button and that I don't add two parts, but what are those parts so that I don't buy something that I don't need.

you put a push button in between the wire going to the trigger pin, this allows it to complete the circuit when pushed giving you a rapid fire effect.

if you want it on a button, take the output from pin #3 and run it to the push button, and the other side of the push button goes to the center pin of the controller trigger. thus eliminating a need for the on/off switch, and the transistor. everything else stays the same

Righto, I'm going to attempt this today. Thanks, you guys are great. Next year I will be taking an electronics class at a college, so hopefully I'll be able to help on this site instead of being helped.
