Title: I could use some expert opinions!
Post by: MrFizz on July 20, 2010, 04:27:13 PM
Hi all, I'm looking to modify mine and my girlfriend's ds lites. I made a list of all the tools and supplies I would need, does it look like I'm missing anything?

1. Are these the correct tools I'll need to disassemble the ds?
 -Tri-wing and cross-wing screwdriver.
-A plastic spudger to pry the case open.
 -X-acto knife.
 -Jewelers pliars.
-Small flathead and philips head screw drivers.
2. I would like to modify the status lights by replacing them with different colored LEDs.
-I apparently need 0603 SMD LEDs, correct?
-Will these (http://www.phenoptix.com/shop/0603-leds-c-21_30_32.html) work? and are they the correct voltage?
-Also, are these LEDs user replaceable or will I need to solder them in? (Is there a tutorial or video for replacing these LEDs?)

Thanks in advance!

I may be a little late on the response here but as for the tools, that's everything you need.

0603 LEDs are the correct size but these things don't just pop out, they require soldering. 0603 measure 1.6mm x 0.8mm which means they're very difficult to solder without experience.
