Title: Just look at the schematic and tell me why its not working. easy!
Post by: pod-noob on October 14, 2010, 07:56:49 PM
please some one tell me why this schematic doesnt work. it always only turns on 1 of the 2 lights.

I was attempting to make a "ghetto" vu meter.

CBE = transistor. its a NPN transistor 2n3904
R1 = 470 ohm (its for a speaker not console related) r2 = same as R1

I've looked at that for a good 5 minutes... It doesn't make any sense (Read: Re-do it so someone can actually understand it properly. XD).

I can understand your circuit a little bit. The problem is you are loading your LEDs through your transistor and through your speaker.

your resistors on the base of the transistors will only slightly turn the transistor on. Also you are feeding DC into the speakers! Not GOOD!

Whats the supply voltage?

Here is a redrawn circuit that is Your version:

Here is a redesigned circuit that will fit your needs:

The Dashed line represents an optional connection if you are using a variable resistor to adjust to the different voltages.

How did you understand that? XD Can you draw me a proper version? XD

Practice makes perfect, been doing this kind of stuff since i was 12. :)

Trust me, i've seen worse.

I've been doing electronics for the last 3 years. I barely work and got A at GCSE, and B for AS, now doing A2. XD

I just looked over your two images... I didn't realise what the second one was till I saw the input part of the speaker. XD But nice diagram. Any special program for that? O___o

Electronics is not hard to learn at all; once you get the basics down its pretty easy. Four out of Five electronics programs i see that are taught at schools don't allow a student to learn... they don't really let you find out for yourself. See for example this guy pod-noob built a circuit and it doesn't work? well you ask why? what does each component do as an individual?

Think of a circuit as a Rube Goldberg machine but there is no real moving parts. a transistor is like a push button... the base is the finger that pushes the switch... and the electricity flows through the collector and emitter...

How your brain learns is cool because it makes connections of different unrelated things and tries to relate them.

MS Paint :)

That is insanely good for paint.

Get some real software! XD I use Croc Tech. :P
