As the subject clearly states an application for Android devices and Apple's iPod Touch and iPhone / iPad would be marvelous. Tabs at the bottom to navigate between The Shout Box and the actual forum, in a nice organize way so you don't constantly have to zoom in. This would be wicked for those who cannot access the site when we are at work or school.
Is anybody looking into this sort of thing yet? Is anybody up to the challenge?

I'd look forward to it if I didn't have a ZuneHD.
-
if they was one i would use it for sure i live on my ipod so i would
-
This should really be looked into, imagine the huge boost in members that would likely follow.
* Shout Box
* Forum [ Without having to constantly zoom ]
* Videos [ Directed to You Tube like the Machinima application ]
* Personal Messages
What else should it have on the bottom? Five or Six tabs depending on the size would look balanced and not crammed.

if anyone can code for iphone or android and do it well feel free to get in touch with me
-
simplefied profile viewer?
-
It would probably be easier to do a mobile theme. Mobile app development is costly and time consuming, but I'd be happy to work on a mobile theme.
-
Well ideally it would need to work on WiFi as well as a cell phone data package because not everybody has a data package. This is more for those with iPod Touch and iPads without data service at all. I really hope this comes together.
I've got to start head hunting... I mean recruiting some app makers.
HiddenVenom, how would the mobile theme work exactly?
-TwisT
-
Just a thinner theme for the site. Simpler, easier to use on a touch screen
-
It would be marvelous to be able to access it at school and work though. Everywhere seems to block things dealing with games now'a days.

well Robin, there are only so many people here that run Mac OSX... you NEED to be running that to make an app for the app store. it would be kinda stupid to make a cydia store app, since it would almost be guaranteed to be accepted...
-
Just run a mobile optimization plugin ? Easier and would work across all cellphone operating systems...

anyone who can program using eclips could make them i dabiled for a while when i wanted to build an android app... i would make a few posts over at XDA you would prolly find an android devlopor there that
would do it for nothing/next to nothing...
-
>.> most people on here have ios devices though... that doesnt really help us much.
-
if you get the source code there are programs that can convert them (not perfectly mind you) from android to ios
on a side note most ppl have ios but that is changing because android is just better
-
kilokk i have a program called red foundry its a start up company that has a plugin in for eclipse that makes it ios compatable i just need a bit help with the coding
-
MAAAN , I would love to make the app and Code it. But I dont have the knowledge to Code. I know nothing If I knew were to start I would do it but I know nothing. And I am being Serious, If I can code I would Have probably be the first to hack the psp, because I dedicate my Talents to the extreme.
-
A theme would be easier imo. And toadzilla, what language are apps coded in? I may be able to help.
-
Cocoa and objective C i think
-
you can code in c# with this http://monotouch.net/ (http://monotouch.net/) i'd love to have a go but i dont have a mac :(
-
the apps for red foundry is in rfml but the only thing would be is we would need to find someone to publish it i thought they did it but its for a fee but im sure we could find someone in the community thats able to do it inless we put it on cydia first intill we find someone who CAN do it then once they can bring it to the app store
-
i have a apple developer account so i can sign and publish anthing. its just the coding i cant do.
and once we get round to updating the forum we will likely have an iphone version of the forum which will work on other phones as well im guessing
-
I know quite a lot of C++, so I don't think it would be too hard for me to learn C# or Objective C... anyway, I'll have a look at this Foundry whatsit this week and see what I can get it to do.
-
if you have a pc and want a mac i will be more than happy to convert your USB pen to a hackintosh. it needs to be 8gb or more - it is quite likely to work if you have a fairly new intel computer (last 4 years im guessing)
-
Tbh it would be easier for me to run a VM.
-
can you run mac os x in vmware.
-
if so you should share your ways
-
Probably. Anyway, been lpoking up tutorial vids, so when I have some time, I'll see if I can get OS X running and if I can learn the necessary Objective C (which, funnily enough, I should have a book coming within the week).
If I get stuff working, I'd be happy to check back and ask everything what they want.
So to put things in perspective:
- The app needs to be able to talk to the forum's server
- If I do this I'm gonna have to get funky with SMF. Oh joy.
Possible features:
- Member Login
- Shoutbox
- Index/News Page
- Forum
- Messages
- Push Notifications
-
nah just get funky with sql and how smf salts and saves users passwords
-
I need to download xampp and SMF as well then. Fun times :)
-
sounds like stuffs bout to get real:D
-
Okay, having probelms doing it with a VM, looking for an alternative route.
-
GD LUCK BTW. LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS APP.
-
I'm going to try to use the Titanium SDK. That way I can build not only for iPhone, but also iPad and Android. Right. Javascript learning time :D
No luck, I'm afraid iPhone only works if you use the program with a mac. Looking for a solution.
SOLUTION FOUND!
It wasn't my first or favourite choice, but it seems that at the moment Flash CS5 is my best option. I already have some experience with it, and the new features should made everything easier.
-
umm... SMF i believe has a plugin for mobile devices.... may want to look into that as i believe that people have already done the legwork..
smf sucks at arranging their add-ons by the way, so good luck at that...

Unfortunately, the plugin has compatability issues... Also people want to be able to access at school and work, and in that respect a them wouldn't work.
-
This is gonna B Great. But I wanna know how do U publish it.
-
the way it's sounding your doing the iphone one and not an android one? i hope that's not the case?!?!
-
any iphone apps i can publish on the app store
-
once we finish the theme I will help you if you want. I am sure we can put our heads together and make this happen. I just want to finish the theme and launch it first.
-
Will it be free, because I think you need to get paid.

Will it be free, because I think you need to get paid.
-
tech that would be decided at a later date
-
hopefully staff doesnt have to pay:P
-
that would have to be looked into. and it would all depend on talks between developers and admins and if it was a paid app it would almost certainly be a $0.99 app
-
tbh i would quite happily pay £1.19 for an AM app although if it was 59p we would probably get more people who arent long term members to buy it
-
it's not the same as a native app specifically for the forum, but you could use tapatalk or forums, both are forum browsers that support smf forums...
-
yeah the problem with tapatalk is we have no control over it and if you want to be able to post you have to buy the pro app which i think is $1.99 and all that money goes to tapatalk so it wouldnt support the site.
-
I would pay $0.99 for it.
-
Yeah, all the high rank people shouldn't pay him. It should cost money on the Store, and all the money goes to the workers. This should open a Gate, to knowledge and now that your experienced I would make much more apps.
