Title: Need some input
Post by: FreeK on January 19, 2011, 01:36:51 PM
Okay, so I'm looking for a non-biased explanation of the differences between Intel and AMD (other then the obvious "theyre different companys durr")

Like is there any actual important differences between them that I should look for, or are they all opinion based?

Stupid me, bought a expensive video card (ATI Radeon HD 4350, ~80$ on Newegg) for a 100 year old PCI mobo, so I'm thinking of selling it and buying a mobo/video card combo deal (or even mobo/cpu, then getting a vid card later), and need some help

Update:
What do you think of this:

Mobo+CPU combo:
AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 2.9GHz + BIOSTAR A770E3 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.581112)

Video Card:
Radeon HD 4670 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161315)

And remember, I'm not going for amazing specs, just a budget build.

Intel performs better. AMD is cheaper and more budget based. It's all opinionated, though.
I don't like Biostar stuff. They're a lesser known brand. The CPU is fine. HIS graphics cards are known to be faulty/die early.

Thanks Chris.

Do you think this combo would be better:
GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3 + AMD Phenom II X2 545 Callisto 3.0GHz (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.581279)

Or if you could recommend a cheap mobo+cpu that isn't in combo form, that would be awesome (since I really don't know what to look for in them).

I don't see anything wrong with that combo. I'm not sure how GB's AMD boards are, but I've seen some terrible i7 GB boards come into my work one more than one occasion.

In my opinion go with a MSI board paired with a AMD Phenom CPU the Phenom II X3s are nice so are the X2s.

The mobo is a little pricey. I choose this one cause you could upgrade your CPU to a six core phenom if you wanted/needed to. You could always go for a similar but cheaper board.

Your looking at about 140 plus shipping which is about 7 bucks more then that Gigabyte board combo and if you choose a MSI board that's ten dollars cheaper you'd save 3 bucks! :P
