so here the plan i am gonna build my ps3 to house everything seen here:

This is a toy mini LED projector that can project to a maximum 60inch TV.  I'm gonna put it inside after i de-case it!

Now i am gonna be hard wiring a sata hard drive enclose inside my ps3 with a little door so i can hot swap this 250GB hd:

Next i will be installing one of the many CFW's out there.

After all this is done and working i'm gonna go crazy with some led's and paint and will have a ps3 that just needs a single power plug and can play anywhere and everywhere without the need for tv's or disks


BEGINNING OF MOD

STEP 1

   Solder some wires to the Back of the USB ports to be used with my usb hub down the road:

OK so I'm gonna start attaching the pics instead of just displaying them here as it takes to much room and makes the page take to long to load =)

OK so these pics are like 4 days old now but I've been to lazy to make a post but i figure i have tons of time on Friday to mod that i should get the old pics off my phone

The first 2 pics are of my solder job on the power circuit for the mini projector... the power will be coming from the bluray drive's power as i am not using the drive

pic one is of the connector and the resistor i wired in to reduce the 12v power to the 6v needed for the projector.  the other 2 wires will be used to power the external sata controller (no resistor for that as it is 5v)

pic 2 is where the power output is soldered to the projectors board


both pic 3 and pic 4 show the projector in action

pic 3 is of me testing out the CFW by backing up my Lego Star wars

Pic 4 is just a close up =)


Also i would like to note that since i did the USB i have ripped it out as it did not work the way i wanted it to and i rewired it I'm just waiting on a USB hub that works with the ps3 (apparently some don't who knew lol :dntknw:)

ya ya it's new post day!

OK so pic #1 is my new USB hub de-cased

pic #2 is my redo of the USB.  I ended up soldering 2 data wires from the source and the power and ground from the old spot to a USB hub.. then wired back to the USB from the hub then i cut the data trace in the middle so the data runs from the ps3 to the hub and back to the USB port thus allowing me to add 4 external ports and 2 internal ports and still have the front 2 work correctly =)

Pic #3 is just showing how i wired it

#4 is the hole i rut to mount it

#5 is making sure i didn't screw it up =)

I'll have some time to work on it tomorrow cause it's family day but the wife works =) so with any luck i'll be posting new pics tomorrow or Tuesday

OK so bigish update today and this one has a video but i am gonna post merge that so the vid shows up under the photos

pic #1 is the cut out i made in the top of the ps3 (not the slide) to give my projector a little more room...

pic #2 is what is looks like with the projector fit into it... the finished system will look better with rounded edges i just did it like this for the mock up

pic #3 is  the hole i cut for the usb hard drive i will be gluing the piece i removed to the hard drive so it doesn't look like a void hole

Pic #4 is the hard drive sitting in the hole i cut for it

pic #5 is just showing where i am mounting the internal speaker for the sound i did it there cause of the holes that are already on the side of the ps3 so the sound will travel out well

i didn't take pics of the inside cause it is a very big mess right now as everything is just kinda ramed in to make sure it all fits it will probably get painted before i get everything in it's final place cause once it goes in it is hard to get out

thanks for looking and I welcome your feedback (I'd actually like it at this point) tips pointers or criticism would be awesome.  or just to hear what you guys think of the idea

ok so everything on the inside is done... and for paint I have primed and base coated the ps3 now

pic #1 is everything in it's final place

in this photo you can see:
my projector
the av inputs
the usb hub
the external hd card
the bluray controller card
the speaker
the power plug to do it all

Pic #2 is just another internal shot

pic #3 is the external hard drive painted with the front part on

pic #4 is the ps3 in base cote

Pic #5 is the base coted ps3 with the hard drive installed

this mod should be done in the next 2 weeks or so and then i may start on the controller with it

so i can't decide on my base paint colour so i keep changing it once i know the final colour i will post a pic!

So this is gonna be one of my final updates.  I've settled on this colour for my base coat. 


Pic's 1-4 are the top, left, rear, and right sides. 

Pics 5 and 6 are the external hard drive

and pic 7 is with the drive fitted

the green tape in pic 7 is so i can  remove the hard drive while i wait on my strap to be embroidered. 

all that's left is the design paint that will feature AM for acid mods as well as my moderID

I was waiting on somebody to comment about the hard drive being painted. That is pretty badass you put a projector in a ps3 though, i love to see the ingenuity that people have on this site.

he did and i dont see the air hole he should have not covered plus looks nice but did you just spay it with everything still in it?

oh yes i did LOL the air hold for this drive was on the bottom (ya i know i thought it was odd to)  and i painted the hd cause i found you could see the top of the drive through the disk slot so i painted it so you didn't notice anything though the slot.

and ya i did paint it with everything in it... i kinda got excited about testing everything in it's final place and once it was there i wasn't taking everything out so i taped it all up nicely and went crazy with like 20 coats of paint b4 i found a colour i liked.

this is my Acidmods 2011 winter mod-off final project
THE PS3 PROJECT-OR

Here is a list of all mods done:

Blu-ray drive removed

Blu-ray controller card reinstalled

wires run to the on board usb (2 sets of data) and trace in between cut

usb hub installed

external hard drive encloser installed

projector installed and holes cut out the back

hole cut in the front for the external hard drive
