Oki I own a 80gb phat ps3 that is 2nd hand iv upgraded the hard drive to 160gb thats out of an old laptop
my problem is when i play some games it freezes and will not respond not even to the hard reset i have to swicth it of from the back, it mostly happens on fallout and fallout new vegas, vikings and once on AvP
my ps3 is well ventilated, it is cleaned once every 3 to 4 weeks.
Any ideas i kno this sounds daft but could it be my hardrive since it is old

ok was it ok before you changed hdd??
fallout crashes no matter what console.
make sure your hdd is not over 5200 rpm as this will heat up the ps3 very quick.

it has frooze once with the 80gb hd, and the 160gb hard drive specs are fine but it is like 4/5 years old

=/ Sadly I know this issue all too well, it sounds like the bluray is going out in the console. I've had two yellow light system errors. Contact Sony, although if you have the backwards compatible then your warranty is dead by now. The plus side is, if you have them repair the console you get a new extended warranty. You can also check the AcidMods store they have replacement drives in the store.

yeah thats happened to me,
but it really only freezes on fallout 3 and fallout new vegas
weird, my blu-ray is fine, my system is pretty much new,
i think it might have to do with certain games

When it started with me, it only happened on Borderlands. The second time it was Fallout 3 and it finally died while I was playing Mirror's Edge. Yes it only happens once in a while with games that take a lot of power, but what I am saying is that it only happened a hand full of times and worked after I turned off the power supply and waited a few minutes. Then just poof. Yellow light.
