Title: Call Of Duty
Post by: frenulem - No.5417 on February 23, 2011, 01:27:10 PM
No matter how you feel about the call of duty franchise, whether or not you like it. You cannot deny that it has had an extreme effect on the gaming culture as a whole, it has given rise to a whole new community of youtube commentators, the rise in the popularity machinima, Sark, Seananners and hutch are now common names when FPS are brought up in discussions. But is this impact good or bad?

There are two sides to this argument, Firstly it has made developers listen to the community, using twitter, you try and access Josh Olin’s (JD2020) account and you can rarely get anything but the temporarily unavailable page. This shows that they are listening, the range of the knife has been tweaked so much, every time I go online the version number has changed. Granted they were not the first developer to do this, Bungie has been doing such things for a long time. But it seems to be the start of something new.

But it has also made people want to conform with Call Of Duty’s arcade style of FPS, I love playing Codemaster’s Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, for those of you that don’t know it is similar to a PC game called ARMA, a war simulator, get shot in the leg and you can’t sprint, and you have to choose your own way through a battle, if you want to avoid the firefight you can but for the sequel to this title, the have made the campaign linear, like the Call Of Duty games and for this fact I am annoyed, the way it has made the industry change the way it makes games.

In all it has had a major effect, for the good and for the bad, but that is the way games work, the only way we will see a major change this year, with the release of the next Call Of Duty game, and the recent happening between IW and Activison.

IMO, Call of Duty 4 was the perfect game.. every one since has been a cheat/fail fest. One exception though.. Zombies! love love love em!

..I'll never understand how anyone thinks GOW was good. I was bored just watching other people play it.

I would agree that COD has changed the face of games palyed online and during single player campaigns. COD 4 was my favorite out of all of them, though in retro spect they had some of the same type of game play elements as Halo, but on a more realistic approach. Then they chose to abandon IW to go with Treyarch, I was really displeased to say the least about the job that they did with making the Multiplayer side of the game. It just didnt have the same feeling as the previous. I was stocked to find out that they had chosen to go back to IW with MW2. However, it was as if they tried to hard on the game. This lead to new kill streak rewards which just seemed to over top. This really took away from the shootem up style of game play that I had fallen in love with. COD Black Ops, made by Treyarch once again just plain stinks in my opinion. Did they really have to add little RC cars and camera guided missle launchers into the mix. The RC cars is the only thing I here rolling around on every match. The games in my opinion lack the skill that used to be required when playing. now anyone lucky to get a chopper gunner can ultimately mow down 10 to 20 people and win the game. The team could have been loosing horribly and turn around with this luck. Its just not right, I hope IW comes back for another time around, never letting Treyarch create another horrible display of COD.

It all pales in the face of Counterstrike.

When your dead, you stay dead (till the next round).

I have the same exact opinion as Tracey. I went from COD4 to W@W to MW2 and after MW2 I was completely done with COD because the games just got less fun after COD4. W@W National Socialist Zombies was the only thing that gave that game any life IMO. All other aspects of W@W were :censored: IMO. MW2 just basically pissed me off as a whole. There was a pretty good amount of weapons and that's prolly the only thing I really cared for in MW2. But I'm more of a competitive gamer so that's why I stick to Halo these days. Most of the COD kids that try to play halo completely fail at it because it's not one shot kill with the DMR/BR and because of that they suck. Plus camping in Halo doesn't work out at all majority of the time. So the main reason why I think COD is such a popular title is because it's such a easy game to be good at. Which is gay IMO.

The thing I find that draws me towards cod games is the fact that they are actually playable, yea I know there is stuff that pisses people off but you have no idea how bad other games are lag wise...

BC2 is so ridiculous laggy for anywhere other than US or UK, you may think aww he just sucks at it. but I was playing onslaught with a couple of yanks and shot an entire load of heavy machine gun into an ai only to receive not even a hit marker, no rage this is exactly what happened, I played for 2hours getting this co-op achievement and final scoreboard was 0kills. In multiplayer its slightly more bearable, but the controls are so clunky and hit detection doesn't work at all.
Since I have some general fps experience my stats arn't as bad as they should be
(https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fbfbc2.statsverse.com%2Fsig%2Fclean5%2F360%2FDa%2520GhoSt%2520Within.png&hash=e06d2b2643b43f0c781225192577d8b052896474)

So I mean sure, you can rage about cod's not stacking up to cod 4, but for me with each release it gives me a new fun playable online experience. I don't blame the game for the people who abuse it, and because of that I look back on the times I spent playing each cod I have fond memories of gaming with a bunch of friends. Anyway thats just my opinion... cod player since cod2.

I agree with that.
COD4 was perfect, I would go back to it if everyone came with me..

I also agree with that, and still play it daily

i myself have stop playing cod with my cod friday crew. however id go back to cod4 anyday.

We need to get the crew back together. And y'all need to stop :censored:ing when I say COD4 instead of Black :censored:s

(also, I know not to swear, but if the auto-censor works, then there should be no problem.)

you bet it's had an impact... before Black Ops came out, I'd actually see my brother out and about... now I'll find him all hours of the day playing on the best TV we got! It's not that I miss my brother, just the TV!

My favorite was W@W... I am a huge WWII fanatic and appreciate the original National Socialist Zombies <--- Result of VERY LAME BUT NECESSARY CENSORING!!! (which I modded the crap out of on my pc!, but before I could launch my slew of mods.... my house was literally struck by lightning, fried my router, fried a variety of cables, AND the only hard drive with the mods on it!) Talk about bad luck... If you have seen what I can do with graphics... you can believe my weapon skins were freakin' amazing!<----took an average of 12 hours (average workday) to design, develop, and test them! My favorite mod though was Jewish Zombies... It was kind of fun lighting up the "Jewish Zombies" with a flamethrower and needless to say was in "a little bit of trouble" with the administrators in my high school for testing, developing, and sharing with friends AND staff! Those were the good old days....
