Heres the hardest question in the world to answer unless you all ready know what you want to be when you grow up.
As a few of you may know who I am or what I have been in my past years. Its time to start fresh and rethink what I want to be in life other Than a Toys R Us kid... :rofl:
I have been laid off from work for a little over a year and started taking some work related classes, to teach you about attitude, life values career values, etc and marketing yourself.
But as the question still Remains WHat do you want to be when you grow up?
Thought we would have a little fun with this...lmao
give it your best with out alot of thought , should get some good laughs and maybe some real thought for others.

I wanna be me... but really a self employed business owner and entrepreneur (I really hate working for other people). I've been working on a patentable and marketable product for about a year now, and also formulating a business plan covering all aspects of my future business...

College Professor <----- Don't even need to graduate high school
Materials Engineer <----- Looking for a job? BEST PICK
Electrical Engineer <----- Paid big cash
Residential Wiring Inspector <----- EASY

Im kinda in the same boat as jr. I absolutely hate working for other people because its probably gonna be like a 90% chance to work under a complete douche. My parents are both business owners and i have learned alot from them through out the years. Its not all fun and games when owning a business but a ton of responsibility and hard work will lead you into having a successful business and bringing in the bucks. Once i graduate UTI, i would like to go to school to get my business degree like my wife has and start a small business. If you always think positive and have a great outlook on life then you are guaranteed to be a successful person.

I've got a few avenues I'd like to pursue for careers.
Metal Guitarist.
Run a shop that converts bicycles to mopeds.
Systems Administrator/Network Administrator that always has a contract.
Run a community organization that offers free computer and console repair.

Same Boat in all with Crazy modder and JR, I have tried a few things here and there just seem so hard to get a plan, sometimes you need to just go with it. I am not sure you really need a buisness degree to help you suceed, its the Postive attitude and self confidence that can get you there and dedication to your buisness.
I have worked for alot of people, and I was very dedicated to there company and been thinking if I work that hard for them, why not work that hard and put the dedication for my own company.
You have to do what Makes you happy and support your families.
and the fact of dealing with an :censored: boss can change your attitude about life, dealing with customers can be the same way, sometimes harder when they dont pay after you done the work.
You all have some really good ideas for work...keep it up :hifive:

I don't think you necessarily need a business degree but it helps to know what you're doing. the top two reasons startups fail are that the people starting the business didn't realize how much work it was actually going to be and once they're there realize they don't want to actually work that much or that hard; and mismanagement because they don't understand all the principles of owning and operating a business, that's where having a partner with that knowledge comes in handy... it doesn't necessarily need to be a 50/50 partnership, but it certainly helps to have someone who knows the ins and outs of operating a business... either that or you take the long hard road and learn it as you go, like my dad did. he now runs a successful consulting firm that is world renowned in it's industry (he is the first non-Greek to ever be hired for a coporate position by Onassis' Springfield Shipping), granted it's taken him 15 years and several near failures to get there, but he is doing far better now than when he left BP 15 years ago...

100% JR, as your dad knows it wasnt easy, but he is a much better buisness man now, cuz he has had ups and downs also, He feels 100% better about himself knowing he did it all on his own, or with friends and family (Partner) whatever it may be, He earned it and that makes him a better man.

lol i love how jr ALWAYS has to disagree with me on something..... I pretty much just want to turn my associates that i get from UTI into a bachelor degree in business. DUH a business degree is not needed to run a damn business but it is just one of those things under your belt.
All i have to says is "THINK GREAT=DO GREAT"

sound tech (radio or television) i have about 5 years with analog sound
game designer doubt it since theres too many in the profession
coder in any of the major crap weather it be vb html5 css c++ networking linux just something related to it
or own a small buisness

be good to people, respect and work hard, try to learn as much as i can, and enjoy life, im already grown up dindt become a rich man but i feel very happy me personally wouldnt change nothing i always wish to be a lot of things when i was growing up dindt become none of them i guess it wasnt my destiny on life to be succesful :laughing:

Hopefully I'll be managing networks somewhere over the next few years. I'm currently enrolled in a cisco college course at a technical highschool. So far we've only gone over hardware (stuff I sleep through...) I test for my A+ certification in two weeks, wish me luck!!!

Once i finish with collage schooling anything is possible for me. i could be an electrical engineer like dad but i really dont want to. I really would enjoy being an inventor. One of my proffesors is an inventor who worked on the f15,the lunar module,some kind of advanced plastic(but i cant confirm if it was him or even if hes lying,but i dout he would),various missles,SDI,the space shuutle,and the hubble space telescope. In the 1980s he was asked to head a highly classified illegal operation for the us navy.He was thrown in jail when he refused to make anymore wepons for the military to kill people. He was released about 7 years ago and is a proffesor now.Me and him are working on some very heavy duty things in the feild of robotics which i wish i could tell you about but i was sworn to secrecy. I have very big ideas and i hope things will go good for me and all of you in the futute.

As for running your business: The MOST important thing about running a business is running the right one. You can be the best salesman/accountant/marketer/inventor and it wont mean a thing if you start a snow-blower shop in Florida. Even though I used an exageration there, most start-ups fail because they never saw how BAD an idea there busines really was. For instance, you cannot start an electronics shop next to BestBuy. Your own overhead will over-price your merchandise and you are competing with invesment dollars you would retire on if you had yourself. Small businesses have to be specialized today, and if your specialty is too special then you dont have a customer base to sell to. If your not special enough, everyone else will jump on baord and compete against you (can you say rapidifre?). And no matter how succesful you are one year, you are a failure the next. It is a seasaw at best.
Quite honestly, the fastest and easiest path to success is a corporate ladder. Your hard work always pays off (but be prepared to be political, otherwise someone else will take your credit). It is actually alot less effort than most imagine to make a big company more successful. And in teh end, you earn more than you could have made from a small business. Plus, if having a family is something you might want to consider in the future, having benfits handed to you vs paying the whole $40,000 medical bill is a reality you should face sonner than later.
