Microsoft has just released a new us based Microsoft connect beta testing for Xbox 360 owners to test a new type of disk format. Rumors from euro gamer is being said that it adds a gigabyte of space extra on the disk. Users who get accepted receive a free copy of halo reach. We can bet that this isn't just a generous gift on Microsoft's part - more likely it is a disc pressed using the new format, and Microsoft is looking for data on performance on as many different systems as it can. There is no one standard Xbox 360 DVD drive: the platform holder has used drives from Samsung, Hitachi, Benq and Liteon across the console's five year history.

Why don't they make a new binary logic system called 'trinary'?
Why don't then make Windows 8 and install it on the xbox360 code it with hulla-baloo and nobody could softmod it?
/lol
So... anyways this is a good opportunity to shut copied game leaks. They could prevent people from using that format on regular CD-RW drives by simply refusing to burn the image on media. Copyright motivation? ..Glad microsoft is trying to stay ahead of the game.
Free copy of Halo Reach? Sweet more easy kills.... :winker: :eyebrow:

yep... that woulda been nice to get in on...

Yeah what the hell...i never heard of any beta testing. Wish i would of found out earlier. I think no matter what format it is, somebody will still find a loop hole and hack it. I already see it coming, JR is going to disagree with me lol.

just for that I am going to disagree with you... no not really lol, of course they'll hack it and start copying the new discs...

maybe they will do something similar like the GC? or some other form of technology to encrypt the data. perhaps making the dvd drive capable of reading dame disc backward? lol to prevent people from just burning it though a regular burner. dam! too bad it ended early!
