This interesting little diagram has appeared online, it shows how sony may implement a split screen system, by actually splitting the screen.
Ok, now i barley understand this normally, even less with a headache so im just going to quote this 3D works by the image being sent to the viewer via two channels (onf for each eye and their glasses showing the two together to make the 3D image. For screen-share the PS3 instead transmits each player’s display into each channel, so one player wears glasses tuned to one the other player receives the other. This means the two players see separate images in 2D but get to use the whole screen instead of having only half. It will certainly eliminate cheating by spying on the other player’s position!

Someone here was talking about this a while ago, maybe galaxyearth.

this is a brilliant idea and it also means you cant just look at the other persons screen and know where they are!
-
Pretty interesting, Due to I as myself and I am sure others dont like to play split screen either, being able to see the whole screen for each player would make gaming more fun and exciting

i believe that it works via differrent frequencies... the screen displays overlapped images and your glasses are polarized and turn on and off at the frequency that your "image" is shown.... it would probably require at least 120hz screen so as not to stutter... but im no genius and am unsure.
thanks fren for posting it, i think that eventhough it is older (as it was speculated) sony does hold a patent on the idea... cant wait to see this in action..
Imagine this on regular TV, watching a sports game and with the push of a button on your 3d glasses you get a different camera angle...
-
this would be done by having glasses that switch between opaque and transparent
when player 1's image is on the screen player2's glasses become opaque and vice versa, the image switches between players with every frame effective halving the frame rate.

hop and hyper your both right.
if you are using passive 3D then you would have 2 images overlaid ontop of each other at different polarizations and then you wear those cheep glasses you get at the theatre and each eye has a differnt polar lense in it that lets only one image through - for this to work as described above you would have video 1 overlaid ontop of video two and you would need a special pair of passive glasses that only used one type of polar lense in each eye to filter out the two images
if you are using active shutter glasses you usually have a tv that alternates each image in time with each eye in the glasses thats why these modern tv's usually employ atleast 240hz as to be able to show each image for each eye at 120hz without flickering. to use this as described you would need to have vid 1 alternate with vid 2 and have the glasses instead of alternating each eye alternate both eyes on and off in time with the image your wanting to watch.
my guess is that the logical tech to use for the set up above would be active shuutter as if you use passive you would need 3 types of glasses one for 3d one for vid 1 and one for vid 3 where as with the active glasses all you would need is one pair of glasses with the toggle either on the glasses or in the tv OS depending on how the glasses comunicate with the tv

active is what i would believe it to be as well.... however you could have 4 screens... 60hz is still fine... in the usa electricity is 60hz, and you dont get flicker with incandescent lighting.. so you should be able to have 4 players on a 240hz screen...
that would be dope.. would look like crap to onseers.........
I WANT!

you know what's freaking ridiculous???? i remember discussing this in FULL detail with a friend back in 6th grade... how to eliminate screen cheating. and look what happened... i love the future <3 so amazing.
