This is absolutely huge if it can be believed. Develop, who are usually very reliable, are quoting an anonymous source as saying that EA have a new Microsoft console on some desks and are preparing first wave software for the machine already.
The suggestion is that Microsoft might be preparing an announcement at E3, just in time to steal Nintendo’s thunder on their Project Café (Wii 2) announcement. According to Develop’s source, the new console is so early in its development that it doesn’t even have proper housing yet – it’s been delivered inside PC casing. We assume that this is indeed normal procedure for the development stages of any new hardware of this type.
This new rumour, coupled with the Microsoft job advertisements for hardware engineers from earlier in the year, would seem to indicate that new hardware development is well and truly underway. Just how early in that development we are is another matter but large publishing partners would presumably get access only when the final specification and build blueprints are locked and there’s only testing and refinement to go.
E3, then… That’ll be worth keeping an eye on.

This rumor has been circulating around since the conformation of the Wii 2. it doesn't seem to be true but i guess we'll just have to wail till E3 to find out eh?
-

-

ahhah sorry fren

ahhah sorry fren
what for crazy it was a good article lol
-
yeah that is standard procedure. thats what the pics were when someone showed me some leaked photos of an early wii or ps3 developer console - was built into what looked like one of those older jankey dell pcs that your monitor would sit on
-
- i will geek out if i can see the specs!- they say the wii2 will surpass the ps3 specs, the "NGP" will surpass the ps3 specs, will the new xbox surpass?
-
well if it doesn't surpass the PS3 specs it'll be a total flop imo considering the PS3 is now 5 years old... kinda strange that they developed the hardware so quickly if they just put out adverts for hardware engineers early this year, kinda makes me wonder if they sped things up simply to beat the big N to the punch... if they did could we be looking at another RRoD fiasco due to lack of development and testing time?
-
quite possibly yes that could happen. But who's to say that Nintendo didnt push the dev of their new console to try for a head start in the race against Microsoft and Sony?
-
IMO...i think Microsoft should just sit back for a little bit and keep improving on the new xbox so there is no stupid rrod issues. I would rather wait a little longer and have a reliable console than hurry up and buy a huge pos.
-
if they got it in that fast i do see a rrod problem or a ps3 overheating problem but if its not and would work great after a long time play ill buy it
plus being the new xbox do you think gow3 will end up on it?
-
Great job microsoft way to be greedy and put rush out another console as soon as possible... i can see rrod all over again... I really hope sony takes their time in this console race, puts out a high quality console, and redeems themselves for all the trouble they've caused. I really can't believe this..
-
hard to believe they came up with the concept in three months pretty sure they aren't apple with ives in the basement
-
who cares if it red rings? lets face it, it was a problem... but microsoft made good on most of them, not to mention the fact that I,ad I am sure alot of you made money off the red ring fiasco.
-
ahhah sorry fren

based on their track record over the past few years i doubt a good console will come from sony again... the psp was a failure (as a gaming device not hackers plaything mind you) and the ps3... yeah...
but that said i sure hope they dont put a new one out yet. i just got settled in on this generation T-T

its quite obvious you've NEVER been to japan my friend ;) sure sales weren't amazing, but it was FAR from a failure as a gaming device... it revolutionized the "handheld."

Damn straight it did. And the psp may have not been the best in the gaming section but it opened up the possibility that a handheld could out perform a home console. If sony had worked a little harder on the original psp we very well may have had the NGP already. (we may not have had he pandora battery's either if they had worked harder if you think about it....)
