I started a new case today. this one with a spiderman theme.

hit that with a glossy black paint and run some red or even blue/uv lights would make this look very clean! is the spider climbing down? or is the logo upside down lol
-
Thats sweet, nice size also ..
-
the logo is upside down. when its done the body of the spider should be over the heat sink and will be made of black grating material.
-
very nice! looking forward to seeing it finished!
-
just watch out for the Os and 0s in the xbox360 logo, they like to separate from the case when filing and sanding...
-
I decided to try something different. I am using casting resin to fill the cutout.

Nice dude thats gonna look sweet!!
-
did u just wrap foil around the case? did any resin seep under the case? did you get any air bubbles when curing? i always wanted to try using resin instead of plexiglass. your resin surface might have some ridged edges as the foil underneath is not completely smooth and flat. i cant wait to see the results!
-
I used clear packaging tape to mask the front. the tin foil way just in case it leaked.
its not hardened all the way yet i got a picture.

-
is the rippling in the resin on the front where the packing tape is or is it on the back side and just the resin moving a bit because it's not yet dry?
-
Looks real good so far, can't wait to see it full done and back together. I was also wondering where you can get resin? I've never actually thought of filling in my cuts rather than just using plexi glass. Great idea.
-
this is the site i got it from.

I think it shrinks a little as it sets which is why it rippled. maybe if i had put mold release on just the tape it would prevent that. :dntknw:

Might of worked better if you had a hard surface where you had the tape, and with mold release not sure that would work either, sometimes mold releases can cause more problems then you think, chemical reactions, to the product or mold release build up and could cause percity which means air bubbles in it .I really think it looks good the way it came out gives it charactor to the spider . would of looked good either way whether it was solid red or the way it is now
Great job!!! keep up the good work.
-
did u get any air bubbles?i might try resin windows as i actually have resin laying around lol
-
I masked off the spider and painted it all black then did the web mask.

then painted the red with a mist of black.

I am very happy with the way it came together. but please don't hesitate to critique it.
-
awsome job!!!! you should be very happy with it . nicest one i have seen in a while AMAZING JUST LIKE SPIDY MAN :)
-
the rippling kind of makes it look better actually! any air bubbles or bubble free in the resin?
-
some very small bubbles but nothing to worry about.
-
Nice turn out, very nice job.
-

-

Nam3o.....Man thats awsome, you should be really proud of your work and yourself , that was some reallly good thinking when you came up with this mod... great job
-
thank you.
Its not done yet still need to do the face plate, if it stops raining.
-
How easy do you think it would be to use the casting resin on a curved surface like a controller shell? ... thats what i have been thinking for the past few days.
-
Will the casting resin always warp when you apply it on an xbox case or did you just not have it in the right conditions when it was drying?
-
using it on a curved surface would be hard because it is very thin at first.
the warped look is from the packaging tape i used to mask it. it started off flat but i think the resin shrinks as it hardens.

So if you used a different type of tape would it still warp since it shrinks or what?
-
so if i put mighty putty on the outer surface of my plastic part, let dry, cut my design out from the inside. When i cut out my design I won't cut it all the way through, there will be a channel left behind to holster the resin in place. After that im going to let it set over a few days and grind the mighty putty off, sand it, dilute acetone it and texture it.
I think it will work for sure.
-
There is a mold release product that will help. also the recommended molding surface is silicone which can be purchased at a craft store.

You have to be careful using a silicone mold releas.. it works the best but if you going to be painting your going to have alot of flaws in the paint. Silicone can really mess the paint up .
-
I think if I do the resin again I will do all the paint and finish work before the cutting. I will have to be more careful but it may be easier than painting after the resin is applied.
-
This xbox is schw33t!
-
It is done and for sale on Ebay. I will be sad to see it go. O well on to the next one.

Hey admins is this thread close to the most comented on this board?
Just wondering.
-
Awesome progress with this keep it up.
-
I know this is a large bump..
I found out that using spray adhesive to tack a piece of wax paper on the xbox for the mold works way better than covering it with packing tape. Wax paper won't shrink with the epoxy... peel it off and clean it with a bit of acetone and you should be ready for paint!
-
Not bad idea Fookz. Makes sence along with it as well.
-
Nice, thanks. I did like the shrinking effect in this case though.
-
not bad at all very well done i like how the spider came out love the wrinkle look i think it gve it the best look a+++
