So im working with one of the first model controller for PS3 the sixaxis that has no rumbles.
MSU_V2.5 1.05 (Six-Axis)
Im doing some LED mods. My led fried.
I have + TP1 and - from the battery on the mobo.
Should i get a resistor or do i have the wrong points?
Also are the voltages different for different controller models?
Im undecided which leds im going to use 0603 or 3mm.
This is for my 0603 SMD leds
Parameter Typ Max Unit
Luminous Intensity - 80 mcd
Wavelength 470 nm
Viewing Angle - 130° +/- Deg
Forward Voltage 3.0 3.4 V
Reverse Voltage - - V
Forward Current - 20 mA
This is for 3mm
Parameter Min Max Unit
Luminous Intensity 1500 1200 mcd
Viewing Angle 24° 30° Deg
Forward Voltage 2.8 3.4 V
Reverse Voltage ~ - V
Forward Current ~ 20 mA
Wavelength 465 - 470nm
Any help appreciated thank you in advance.

TP1 is the TP spot for the USB 5v, so if you plug that thing in to recharge it that's going to fry your LED for sure with no Resistor on there. The battery voltage is also 3.7v, again high enough to fry the LEDs you're using with no Resistor.
On that version of controller, as well as any wiht the Hall Sensor type Sticks (4 leads) there is a good switched 2.8v source to use, just connect your LED any of the VCC spots at any of the Sticks. It's not going to light up those LEDs the brightest they can be, but it's switched so it will turn on/off with the controller, and it's not going to fry either of those LEDs. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=648322&st=0
As far as 0603 or 3mm goes, use whatever is easier for you to use and fits best without having to do a pile of extra work.

tp12 on my sixaxis is what i use for a 3mm led.

use the points on my tut for power this will turn your leds off when your controller goes off as well this is the first controller made for ps3 i did it on as it was one of the first shipments when the ps3 first came out.

Do Blue Leds work well with PS3 controllers ?
-
Yes blue leds look great on PS3
-
blue, red, are the best on the ps3 they just stand out so good without putting alot in just to notice you changed leds
-
@ tdecurtins - TP12 is used on the older Six-Axis controllers, it doesn't apply here since he has a MSU_V2.5 1.05.
@ Nevbox - It depends on the actual Voltage rating of the Blue LEDs if they will light up really well or not, but most light up and will still look good.
@ whitetop - That's not one of the first version PS3 controllers, and your closeup pic of the +/- spots is inverted. The MSU_PP versions that have the smoke colored shell and 10k POT style Sticks are what the PS3 originally shipped with. That one you have there has the Hall Sensor Sticks, which Sony didn't start using until the MSU_V2 series. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=648322&st=0

rdc if you read my tut you will see the comment onto of the picture stating it was inverted this was while i editing the picture.
now if my controller is not first gen one how did i get 2rd one if it was shipped and brought with the console on day of release yes pictures show stuff yet there are clones ect im not disputing you yet it would be imposable on a 3rd gen controller to be out on day of release of the console.
plus this member has not replayed so i don't see why this is going on??

Like most people do, I just looked at the pic. ;)
It's still going on for anyone else that stumbles across it. Nothing worse than finding a topic that is similar or exactly like a question you have, yet there are no replies, then to split that hair even further misinformation in replies gets my goat, then to rip it out root and all, it was already suggested he use the Sticks VCC spot, so bringing up that point is kind of moot.
Do you still have or remember the version of that controller? If it was out day 1 (where exactly?, US, UK, ??) then I'm curious as to what it is/was, because it's not a first generation PS3 controller, the MSU_PP versions are. From your pic I can make out MSU_V2, but not the rest, which could be 2.12, 2.14 or something new.

it was with the ps3 on release day in the uk i payed 500$ on first day with a friend i will have to look and get back to you once ive moved since its in a box with all my modding stuff mite not look like i got stuff due to not posting it but ive got alot and of whats not here. im stumped on this now since ive never went out and got a new controller and only have the one i had with the fat and the one with the slim and the slim one is 4gen.

UK, that's why. The release date for the PS3 was months after the US release, so your first day PS3 technically was, but the controllers were already months old and into the newer versions, so newer version controllers shipped with it.
