Title: xenon dead??
Post by: snowcolt17 on June 23, 2011, 03:06:30 PM
ok about a month and a half ago i bought a rrod 360. it had 0001. and i think i over tightened the bolts.. and warped my mobo some. now the 360 wont come on at all. i have checked the U5B1 and U4B2 and they are showing the correct voltages. =/. papaerweight possibly??

gonna sound crazy but attempt a oven bake on the board i have had some warped boards that it worked to take the warping out of it 1 sec and i'll see if i can find a link on how to do it for you

http://xbox-experts.com/tutorial/oven-bake/

like i said going to sound nuts but it has worked for me in the past just make sure you follow the directions and cover the resisters those get to hot and they will explode not a good thing i wish you luck and hope it works for you  oh one last thing the board will smell like the last thing baked in the oven after its done for a while sounds funny but it does LOL

Yeah ive heard of people having success with this method. Not trying to step on your d i c k krazy, but those are capacitors that will explode.

no. i been reading about oven reflowing. (seeing i dont hae a reflow station, or a heat gun). i know you use callo tape, the good white electrical tape, and foil it. then you use liquid fluw, (i read somewhere cant remember where but you can make your own. just mix the soldering flux with 91% isopropyl alcohol.

what would i need to cover up though? :p.
thanks for the quick reply

yea. (https://acidmods.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdl.x-ex.com%2Fweasel%2Ffoil_insulation_resized.jpg&hash=de321aef839aadd40d6ecd5cc7c29ab0dac95a2f)
just do the chips(my error before dying was 0001) so it could help it also. cover the caps and resistors

yeah i ment  capacitors  doing to many things at once thanks crazy and i don't oven bake it to reflow i just do the oven bake if the motherboard has been warped and had it take the warp out i use my heat gun to do the actual reflow but yeah and you wanna put foil around the edges like in the tutorial to reflect the heat from the  capacitors and you should be fine

yeah like in that pic

i just want to try to fix it and jtag it ;). i got 2 xenons, a jasper, and a  zephyr. the jasper and zephyr work just no disc drives. a xenon is for live and the other is warped lol :)

THIS IS JUST A SUGGESTION> NOT RESPOSIBLE FOR FOR YOU XBOX 360. you dont have to do it this way!

Ok I read everything, your best bet would be set the oven around 400 degrees, and "support the mother board up on something", and  so that it doesnt over cook the capacitors, I would say, leave the oven door open, part way, or even all the way once its up to temp before putting the motherboard in there on a cookie sheet.

EDIT: crap... went to edit and lost half of what i had wrote :(

i have read that too rodent. i got some rubby like electrical tape. and some foil.. idk if that will work? anyone know?

maybe just wrap the capacitors up really good with out tape, with the aluminum foil . just to keep the heat off them.

make sure you put the foil balls under the mother board though still to don't want it sitting straight on the oven rack or cookie sheet

well. here goes nothing. im going to put a few layers of clear tape. packing tape. a lot probably. lol. and a few of the electrical tape. then a few of foil. i will take pics during. then in the oven she will go. nothing to lose... EXPERIMENT lol

sweet ROL ,  also why 175 degrees for 1 1/2 hours? why not 400 degrees at 5 minutes and let it cool down for 25 minutes before moving it?

i tried turning it on. still nothing voltages are right for standby... but i let it plugged up for like 10 mins and a chip started getting hot?? i took a pic and highlighted it blue.

sounds like a short to me... but i'm a total xbox noob, the only thing i've done is reflowed the hana chip before to fix E74.

i've cracked open five boxes I have though, and going to jtag and fix them, so I might learn some ;)

thats what i want to do to this one.. i think it might be the hana chip or the u5b2 regulator.. but the regulator is showing the correct voltage. beats me  :dntknw: :dntknw:. i may solder one off my other 360 and see if that fixes it.. i would do the hana chip but its a hdmi model this one isnt

how do you desolder the regulators?!. i have done it successfully on some things. but these things are a pain!!:/

yes they are , takes patients and there time consumming, can get you fustrated fast, just take your time .

i tore the first one off.. :). but the copper thing was still there. i just took my soldering iron and put a chisel tip on it and pushed on the back.. got it. put it on. still got hot. recleaned the ends. and broke one =/. but all the front ones work correct voltage(i just stuck the leg back in). and no voltage at the back tab.. may have to resolder the back tab =/. but its not getting hot xD

couldnt get the u5b2off the zephyr to work.. soldered the one off the jasper. took a few tries to get it to work. still fot hot. =/. not a good thing. i said screw it put it back on the jasper now the jasper works again :)

could you not use a voltage adjustable regulator in alternative??.. may be stupid but. just reroute it and run wires to the inputs and out put. could that not work??. just saying
