I have been building some cool stuff to make things easier for my younger kids to play and a friend said some of my stuff might help disabled gamers. So I decided to throw my hat into the ring, and offer up my help. I like working with the PS3 but I will work on xbox too.
Some of my arcade stick work I believe will be very beneficial to people with MS or just have problems working their fingers .
I have an idea I would like to try out if any one is interested, it can be for xbox or PS3.
Take an Atari style controller, arcade stick with button on top and turn that into dual analog controls. For FPS games. Basically My flight stick controller shrunk down to something more controller like.
link to dual flight stick mod. https://www.acidmods.com/forum/index.php/topic,39784.0.html
I will take requests here or PM. If you want to keep our discussions private that's ok. If you want to share with the community that's ok too.

Denali, i really like the idea of helping out disabled people being able to use it. Once im done working on my project im doing now, im gonna start designing an xbox arcade stick.

You guys are AWSOME!!! to want to help the dissabled gamers, just imagine if you thought of other things to help them out also, I am not sure how much I can help out, but hey I am willing to give it a shot :hifive:

Hi fellow gamers I've been doing some xbox 360 controller modding myself. The thing is I have Muscular Dystrophy and I went 2 years without playing video games. One day I decided that I would learn how to take apart and completely rebuild the 360 controller. Now of course I'm physically unable to make the mods, I do however have a caregiver who does nearly every thing for me. So I taught my caregiver and myself how to build a new controller through trial and error. I currently have a modded controller that I've been using since its creation about a year ago. Importunately its a rough prototype and needs some tweeks as it is getting harder for me to use for certain games. I'm posting here to ask for the help of you more experienced modders to create better solutions. I have a very good idea of what changes are needed, but I am simply to inexperienced.
I can send pictures of my current controller and drawing of ideas I have. I'd greatly appreciate your assistance.
Thank you for all the great things you've done for others with disabilities, I know from experience how frustrating it can be.

Welcome to AM man. I'd be happy to give some help. Send me a PM with anything you want to send. We'll come up with something to help you.
-
Yes, welcome to AM bro. Myself and denali will be more than happy to come up with a design for you.

Hey Crazy I started a forum of what I'm needing, so please check it out.

Hey,
I am disabled and I was looking for someone to mod a controller for me. I am in Canada, BC and could pay shipping and/or other expenses.
What I need is:
- two extra buttons for the left and right joystick buttons as I cannot press them down
- a different d-pad (maybe similar to the gamecube's c-stick)
- different, looser joysticks
- looser triggers or replace them with buttons
- pc input
What would be ideal is a smaller controller but I don't think it would be easy unless I could find a micro Con.
If you could find someone to help me with this. I would be very grateful.
-
PC input? do you mean you want to control a PC with your controller?
-
yes, that is what I mean, it can be corded.
Because I can't use keyboard and I want bf3 on pc. I don't know if that's a difficult thing to do. I don't need it but it would be helpful.
-
Not very difficult by the sounds of it, coreded controllers can contol a windows pc with no mods, the hardest mod i can see here is the loser analouges
-
Can you add a cord to a wireless controller?
-
yes but as far as i know it only powers and charge the controller
-
Ok, so I would have to get a corded controller? Ive been looking for the wireless receiver but it's hard to find one that's not a ripoff.
Is there any other way to get pc input?
-
This is a pic of the button placement. And the d-pad is a joystick.(like c-stick)

so....whos going to take this? the button relocation is simple, to make the triggers softer, cut the springs shorter, the sticks clicks can go to buttons, and extension of the sticks will make them seam easier, and the dpad will take a little thinking.
I know this is normally my relm, but its time for others to step up as i have alot on my plate..
anytakers, or will he have to wait a few weeks for me to get to it?
-
I am swamped at the moment, and crazy-modder is in the middle of moving so not sure he would be able to do it i will put a word out to others
-
Thought about the DPAD: Replace it with a PSP razer nub. That would be alot easier to move.

That for the dpad would work good for me.

The sticks can't be very much longer because I can't reach the right stick very well.

I'm 50/50 I'd have to buy new tools
edit: i would but not much point seeing as thought it would cost £50 for shipping
-
You want me to step in? I am almost done with "Justice box" and I can pitch in on another disabled build.
BTW I got some ideas for dpads. I can pour a custom joystick dpad. I have been thinking about making one anyways. My thoughts about it was a normal xbox dpad with a small joystick coming out of the center.
Let me go through your requests real quick...
What I need is:
1- two extra buttons for the left and right joystick buttons as I cannot press them down
2- a different d-pad (maybe similar to the gamecube's c-stick)
3- different, looser joysticks
4- looser triggers or replace them with buttons
5- pc input
1- your l3 r3 are no problem and I like your placement in the picture.
2- Your dpad issue... try the feel of the psp nub control, if you like that cool, I will still make a stock xbox dpad joystick. You can try that too if you like. That mod can be done by simply removing 2 small screws and swapping dpads, so I could mail that and have you try it out on a stock controller and see how it feels first.
Here is a link to a site that sells modded sticks and modded joystick dpads in complete sets.

3- looser joysticks are a lil tricky... I have a bunch of xbox style stick around and I'll see if any of those are a lil looser.
4- Looser triggers... like matt said cut the spring...
5 - PC input.... a stock wired xbox controller should work fine. Wired xbox controllers can come in handy for either system. They also open up some interesting USB mods. I am supposed to have a wired controller coming, I'll see if I can get 2 . He's probably watching this post , so if you see this PM me please.
Does this cover everything... One thing I have learned is everything is subject to change , so any other ideas are welcome. The more planing we can put into this the better the results can be in the end.

Hey Bladexj, I am a fellow disabled gamer and 1tonpete is deff who want helping you. He's currently finishing a controller for me aka "Justice Box" and he's a great help. I've worked with most of the others in this thread and they are also very helpful.
Also I wouldn't recommend using a psp razer nub, I have tried using them for a d-pad and they are from my experience nearly impossible to move. I'm thinking you should replace the buttons under the d-pad to much easier push buttons and try 1tonpete's d-pad design idea. or ask him to replace the whole d-pad with a micro 5-way switch.
Hope my input help's you.
-
Thanks Moose. I am trying to finish up your Justice box. Hopefully soon.
I think the 5ways are the way to go as they are the easiest to use.
-
I'm glad to have been of use.lol
I'm looking forward to it, gonna be awesome.
-
Hey,
Ya we've decided to go with micro sticks, thanks
Could I see a pic of that justice box? I'm just curious, it might give me an idea.
-
bladexj here you go... this is the link to Justice box. I will be updating the pics as soon as I find my camera.

attached is an idea for what your controller will look like...

About that pic. Can you put the switch in the upper left of the d-pad?
And get smaller buttons, like the size of the old black and white buttons for r/l button.
-
How about start / back buttons? (the ones with the arrows on them) I got a mold of them all ready.I have a set poured in clear right now.
5way location not a problem.
